MY VACATION.
On July 18, . 15)08, I went down to
Taholah with Rex Ward looking for a
job. We started on our journey Sunday
morning about 8:30 and when we reached
Strawberry Point we stopped and asked
for lunch, where there were three families
camping on the beach making. a canoe.
We got our lunch there in a minute.
After we ate our lunch we started again,
it was nearly noon, I suppose, so we had
to walk fast, trying to make Queets in
one (lay.
We reached Hoh River somewhere
about one or. two o'clock, we whistled
signals to cross the river, and soon one
fellow came and took us across, it .was
Frank Harlow, a Queets Indian. There
Hex saw his folks, they wanted us to stop
over night, so we did, and had our sup
per there. ,
!So the' next niorning we started
again with Frank Hallow who wTas bring
ing Rex's folks to Hob on horse back
We rode one horse, two of us. We mad
Queets in three hours, and there we had
our dinner at Dr. Walter's. It was
about noon. After dinner the mantok
us across the river and we , thanked him
extremely.
We started again for. Taholah. On
. the way we could not get through the
. tunnel, because it was high tide, so we
climbed ud the hill for about one or two
miles. At last we reached Taholah. We
made one day from Hoh to Taholah, and
had a nice journey along the beach.
When we got there we found out that
there were not much people, all having
gone to different places to work, so we
went to Geo. Sickman's and stayed there,
over night. And the next morning, the
20th, we went down to Moclips for some
business. We stayed there that day an.d
night. On the 21st, we went back to
Toholah again, and there we stayed with
Albert Smith. And the 22nd we worked
sawing Wood for him and doing -some
other little work. We did not stay there
all the time, but traveled to different
places.
On the 26st of July we went to Gray's
Harbor to see the haibor. We left Mo
clips at 2:50 P. M. for, Fh quiam. and
arrived so.netime between 3 or 4 o'clock
P. M.; the fare is 85 cents one wray. There
we had a vvalk to see the harbor. The
