VOL. 11 JULY 10, 1908. NO. 3 July Fourth A Pay of AthletlQ Victories, July 4th was a clay of athletic victories for the, athletes of Chemawa. The events won were a four-mile relay, 50-yd, dash, two 100-yd, dashes and a baseball game, Not only did we win these events, but every boy who entered an event took a place over all competitors. THK FOUB BELAY, At Salem our relay team won a silver cup from the Y, M, C, A, team of that city, which had hoped to win from our speedy four and had kept in training especially for this event while our boys were out of training, Frank Pan. Michel Wilson, Apis Goudy and Walter Haight ran for Chemawa, winning by sixty yards and 10 2-5 sec, Time 20 in., 10 1-5 sec, 50-YABP DASH Levi Sortor and Antoine Francis en tered in this event against five white athletes at Salem. Levi took first with Antoine a close second. Official time fi pec. (The other timer caught it in 5 8-5 pec ) 100YARJ DASH ' Levi Sortor, Antoine Francis and Thomas McCully entered the 100-yard dash at Salem against seven white ath letes and won first, second and third places in the order named. Official time 10 4-5 sec. (The other timer caught it in 10 see. flat) 400YABD BEK.AY Frank Dan, Peter Casey, Antoine Francis and Thomas McCulJv won a sjl ver cup easily in this event from the Woodmen of the World lodge of Salem, and no time, was caught for this event, BASKBALJ, At Junction City our boys with a-weakened team orosged bats with the Fair mounts of Salem and defeated them by a -score of 8 to 0. The Fairmounts had Keens., of Salem High on the mound, but our boys touched him up for" 12 hits while Washoe, who handled the sphere for us, only allowed them five. It was a pitcher's game and was our game from start to finish. 100-YARD DASH Cyril Morrisette played third for Che (Continued on page 8)
