Miss Florence Hutchinson entertained a number of her friends Wednesday e ve ning at her rooms, which were beauti fully decorated with Chemawa's peerless roses. Games were the order of the evening and so enthusiastic were all in following the lead of the most nimble wits that time and its inexorable . decree about not waiting, etc., was entirely for gotten until called to mind by the twin kle of lights, : . . ; Mr. Ruthyn Turney arid Miss Ger trude Brewer gave some exquisite selec tions from their musical repertoire and dainty refreshments were served by Miss Hutchinson and her assistants. The merriment continued until the leave taking of their hostess, when the guests expressed themselves as having spent a most delightful evenirig; Among those present were: Misses Katherine Earlougher, Elizabeth Leud ke, Genevieve Rover; Cora Steponeck, Iva Cox, Irene Campbell, Olive Skipton, Katherine Browrn, Bertha Cooper, Caro line Koester,; Gertrude Brewer. Mrs. M. E. Hay and Messers. Harry Fickle, How ard Bowen, Ruthyn Turney, L. A. Wood in, of Chemawa;Mrs. Emmett, Misses Frances Howard, Irene Howard and Mr. J. Mason of Salem, and Mr. M. McKay of San Francisco. V ; ... " '.. i Brevities . Katie Rrewer is teaching the fifth nor mal during their final test. She takes delight in teaching.and pleases her pu pils. The first team plays the Eugene High School at Eugene today and will play Silverton High tomorrow at Chemawa. Peter Seltice is back from Salem after a brief illness in the Salem Hospital. His friends are glad to seem him back. Mr. John H. Venter of Lincoln, Neb., has reported as harness maker, succeed ing Mr. J. Swaboda, who was tempor arily filling the position. . -;; Ralph Allen, an ex-pupil, wrote to one of his old friends stating that he is en joying life's pleasure in Sunny side, Wn. He is earning a pret.y good salary work ing in a mill. Edward ; A ins worth says that his class mates will have to go some to get ahead of him in examination. ? Assistant Superintendent Campbell; and a number of employes went to Salem, Wednesday evening, to attend a public speaking. : The band boys went to Salem Wed nesday evening, to appear as a musical feature in a parade given at the capital city. They came home in a special car, arriving heie about 1 L o'clock. Tomorrow is Memorial Day and Che mawa will hold fitting exercises in remembrance of her honored dead. Throughout the length and breadth of this great republic flowers will be placed over the eternal resting places of the beloved departed, and tears will dampen the sod o'er the graves of those whose memory we hold dear.
