Mr. Erickson bars signed the : contract
to build the hospital while Mr.! Dalrym
ple took the bakery, and work started
on Tuesday. Several of the school boys
are working for them.
Edward Ainsworth arid Wm. Major
are working in a foundry in Salem for a
time.
Manual Swanson is running the ele
vator in the Willamette Hotel at night
and is doing very nicely.
Mr. Leon A. Woodin is assisting the
band at the Chautauqua.

patches these hot days say they wauld
like to be on the water wagon.

Alex Cajete arrived Tuesday evening
from New Mexico and is expecting to'
enter our tailor shop.

who is an ex-pupil arrived last Monday
from Bandon, Oregon.
Klmer Sorahan went.to the Chautau
qua at Oregon City last Tuesday.
Mr. Somerville,- of ; Briceland al.
visited his sons, daughters and ' other
children from Briceland this week.
Miss Fannie Noble of. Carlisle Pa. ar
rived here the first of the week, and will
sppnd vacation with Mr, and Mrs, Campbell.
Itdian Sanitarium at Ft. Spokane.
Captain John McA. Webster, agentfor
the Spokane and Colville 'reservations,
has received,, an order, .following his
recommendations to the Indian .depart
ment, to establish a sanitarium in old
Fort Spokane, with, a resident super
intendent and physician and a staff of
trained nurses in charge. All Indiain
children of school age, who . have been
barred from the boarding and day school
of the reservation on account of diseases,
willbe admitted. This order for estab
lishing a sanitarium will include not
only the Spokane and Colville reser
vation but all i reservations in eastern
Washington and northern Idaho.
Captain Webster , says '.that ( between
250 and'' 300 children anvbe .secured
from the reservation. , The. object of the
Indian department has in view is the
general health of the Indians. The se
gregating of the children at the sanita
rium, under careful treatment and rigid
. ranitary conditions, will mitigate the ra
vages of diseases, which are so rapidly
5 decimating the ranks of the . decendants
of the American aborigines. .
Another important object is to nrotect
the white settlers when the reservations
are opened fdr settlement; by isolating
. the diseased Indians. It is hoped by
-the management to have everything in
for opening the sanitarium by fall.
