In the article, "Commencement Day at Chemawa" on opposite page, we hove tried to give our readers an account of the occasion, which was greatly ap preciated by all who were present, but we feel that our efforts in reproducing such a glorious and successful day on paper has failed to do the subject justice. Vacation is here. To the smallest pupil in Chemawa this means a long play time and no thought of lessons to disturb their enjoyment. But with the older pupils it is different. There is work that has to be done to keep up the school plant but ready hands and willing hearts will soon accomplish it and there will be time for rest and amusement for all besides. Hop picking season will soon be here. Then many of the children in the Wil lamette Valley will make their spending money for the next year. We have heard of many cases where a boy or girl has earned enough to buv hi or her winter clothes and school books. Not bad for a few weeks outing, is it? and, oh! what, fun! If you have never been to the hop fields, go thirf year and we predict that you will not regret it, Chemawa boys and girls are in de mand during the hop picking season. They have won the name of "picking clean hops" just what the hop growers of Oregon need. There are only two or three printers left in the school, and this issue of the Chemawa American will be its last p ib lication until in thelatter part of September. Mr. Brewer is to be congratulated by the fine showing of his boys at the dress parade on commencement day. Our boys have the real military bearing when properly drilled. A letter received from Miss Hultman states she is now connected with the Provincial High School at Tacloban, Leyte, P. I. and she desires the little weekly letter from Chemawa with its familiar names and news of old friends. She says that it is a weekly welcome letter. PROPOSALS FOR BRICK HOSPITAL.
