Smile Whenever You Can
Whenever things don't go to suit you,
And the world seems upside down,
Don't waste your time in fretting,
But drve away that frown :
Since life is oft perplexing,
'Tis the wisest plan
To bear all trials bravely,
And smile whenever you can.
"Why should you dread tomorrow,
And despoil today?
For when you borrow trouble,
You have always to pay.
It is a good old maxim,
Which often should be preached,
Don't go over the bridge
Until the bridge is reached.
You may be spared such sighing,
If you should keep in mind
The thought that good and evil
Are always here combined,
There must be something wanting;
And though you roll in wealth,
You may miss from out your casket
That precious jewel health.
Though you're strong and sturdy,
And you may have an empty purse,
And earth has many trials
Which I consider worse :
And whether joy or sorrow
Fill your mortal span,
Twill make your pathway brighter
To smile whenever you can.

One will never regret the hours spent
in useful studying.
He is a very fortunate man who is a
master of several trades. When , om
fails him he can turn to another and
achieve success in that special line, but a
man who is "Jack" of all trades and
master of none, will make a failure of
life. It is better to learn one occupation
than to have a limited knowledge ol
many. The boys in this school should
think of these things, and when thej
once enter a shop, "stick" 'to that depart
ment until they become expert. It wil
pay you in the end. The world whicl
you will sooner or later have to mee
will want skilled workmen and onlj
such can expect to get positions anc
hold them.
Now, we will just imagine that thi
following are the three distinct classra
of government in our school. We wil
take first the Small Boys' Home, as th(
constitutional monarchy, which is now
ruled by a queen, and the Middle Siz(
Boys' Home, as monarchy, ruled by i
king and Mitchell Hall, as a republic a:
it is ruled by its boys. We think that a re
public is the best form of government or
earth. Its people are supposed to be of;
higher intellectual class than any othei
nation, brave and obedient. Well, thn
we, the boys of Mitchell Hall in order t(
forma more perfect self-government, esta
blish justice with our boys, insure a peace'
ful and clean building, secure the bless'
ing of a good name, and promote good ha
bits and actions, should help each othei
and above all obev c"r officers.
