THE CHEMAWA AMERICAN I ACADEMIC A Mary Gibean has entered the fourth grade. C. W. We are studying "wood" in the 6th and 7th grades. We miss Anna Hauser very much from the seventh grade. A. D. The ink was frozen in the ink wells in the 6th and 7th grade rooms. The pupils promoted to the 6th grade have some little trouble with arithmetic, but they are trying hard and will soon catch up with the class. The Eighth A and B class met in room eight Monday evening to make the neces sary arrangements for their annual class party, Feb. 14, 1907. J. S. The following pupils have been promot ed from the 4th B to 4th A: Carl Stone, David Risling, Peter Seymore, Galucia Nelson, Mike Smith, Jennie Schut chagen. A. P. - Irene Peone is sergeant of the 6th grade girls. If any one sees the boys or girls of the 6th grade misbehaving or straggling along home they will know who to biame. Alice Madison of the 6th grade can show us how to make beautiful bead work. She makes the following patterns: bear's track, land otter's trail, zigzig, big eyes, short crosses and long crosses. Fredie Lewis who was promoted to the 7th grade made some of that grade sit up and take notice when he went to the blackboard and worked out a difficult problem. Geo. Williams who was just promoted to the seventh grade is doing nicely, lie did a question in denominate number that some of the old seventh grade could not do.- L. B. The 7th grade just finished their de nominate numbers and are beginning longitude and time. The following promotions were made from the Fifth to the Sixth grade: -Edward. McClelland, Elmer Sorahan, Caro line Ferris, Margaret Lowry, Eddie Som erville, Frank Souvigner, Maxiine Barn aby, Amos Smoker, Orin French, May Mercier, Lavina DeVauit and Philip Sooksoit. Promotions from the B to the A sec tion oi the Fifth grade were as follow: Lena Charles, Caroline Mercier, Dora Lane, Clarinda Blodgett, Lee Evans, Frank Coburn, James Minesinger, James Magee, Manual Swanson, Grover Colby, John Boyee, Hazel Lutler, Anna Mi her, Henry Darnell and James Benjamin. Miss Irene Campbell put on roller skates for the first time at, the Salem rink the other day, and skated alone. She surprised every one by learning so fast. Girls be sure and wear your wraps during this cold weather. It looks very silly to be running around without wraps and bragging about not taking cold don't be geese. Our girls were disappointed at the treatment they received from the Mon mouth girls who were anything but friendly. Our Y. M. C. A. boys went over there several years ago and have always praised the Monmouth people for their kindness and hospitality. Odessa Dodson sent a very pretty New Years card to her teacher. Odessa is now living in Bellingham, Wash. Mr. and Mrs. Campbeil went to Port land last Saturday to hear Madame Shumann Heink the greatest living con tralto singer. They say she sang super bly and that the immense audience in the Armory were very enthuiastic re calling her again and again after each song.
