Six very b isjht pupils arrived lat week froniMucklesbO'it Reservation, viz: Mar tha Pratt, Matilda Pratt, Tommy Jake, Walter Nason, Henry Shaw and James Mo ses. These piilU were sent by Mr. Rey nolds the energetic and faithful Sub-Agent in charge of the Reservation. The Indian women on Puget Sound res ervations do an extensive business In knit ting woolen socks,, which find a ready sale among the white lumberman and fisher men. Tnese Indians raise their own wool, spin it themselves, and then knit the socks, which speaks volume for their industry and abilityi1 Mr. Potter writea, that the finest or chard of apples he has seen this year, was on Mr. Henry Kwina's farm at Lumni. Mr. Kwinaisone of the most progressive and successful Indian farmers on the Reservation. The appearances of the fences, buildings and corrals indicate thrift and good management, and is better in many respects than many of the farms belonging to while men in that section of the country. We were pleased to entertain at Cheraa wa Dr. Charles M. Buchanan, the aftdble Superintendent and Indian Agent, of the Tulalip Agency, Washington, for a few davs after the meeting of the Pacific Coast InsliluteatNewport. Dr. Buchanan isone of the m ist genial of men personally, and Is thoroughly interested in'the welfare and advancement of the 1500 Indiana under his charge. He is always welcome at Chema wa, and we hope he m iy corns often to cheer urf on our way, and help us in our work. - Chemawa needs a new flag. Henry Coutraro returned Wednesday. One would thiuk this was midsummer, "Why don't we have Borne band concert? AruoeColtelt is again back at bis case. How do you like the newloeation for the office? Alice Ben and Chester Bell have arrived from Siletz. Mr. Po'ter is in the Smnd country look ing for pupils. Mrs. Campbell takes a two miles walk every evening after school. Mis Eva Woods will attend the Sisters' school hi fSalero next week. Btipt. and Mrs. Egbert of Yalnsx were the guests of Miss O'Here last week. Mr, Campbell and the nfflue force are a gain burning the midnight oil. Pupils' items crowded out on account of space. They will appear next week. The band is practicing two new pieces, "Poetand Peasant," and " iVilliam Tell.: Fred Foster and Edward Green came from Puyallup with Mr. Cooper last week. Mr. Brewer puts in his spare moments shooting gophers as they appear in our midst. Mrs. Thelsz, with a force of girls, is very busy getting her new quarters ready for oc cupancy. Mr. Campbell went to Portland on bus iness on Monday evening returning on Tuesday. Elvira Parrlsh who has been living with a family iu Salem bag returned to school again. Josepha TVfuria arrived today from Cali fornia euroute to Carlisle, Pa., where sbe will go to school. MissFiOrenceHutchinsOn has beenaddp.1 to our force and is at her post in the office as Assi. Clerk. ' Silas Meeker of Puyaliup has been ad mitted as a pupil.
