The Junior orations in the evening brought forth a great storm of ap plause as did also the two musical numbers on the program rendered by Junior girls. The Varsity departments of English, public speaking and music have just cause to be proud of their proteges who appeared on Friday even ing. Both baseball games on Saturday were interesting. We lost—but then it is the first time we have lost to a college team this year and we can t always win. Two more games will be played next week at Corvallis with the same team. The closing and crowning event of the week end was the Junior Prom at the Armory. There is little doubt but that the Junior W eek End inaugurated by the clas of 1909, will become a permanent tradition. By all means let us make the custom a permanent one. news it contains, but also because if it is not a success this year, the girls may hesitate in taking up the proposi tion another year. The custom should )e an annual one. Let us show the people of the state that our women students are able to take their places in the literary and industrial world as well as as in the social realm. The winning team will be presented with a a handsome forty- articles on the needs of the women at versity Regents—and hailed as the High School champions of the state. Over a hundred of the brightest young minds of the state have partici pated in the various forensic contests which have led up to this debate. Both the contesting trios—Astoria and Leb anon—have won four debates and the championship in their respective dis tricts. The final contest on Friday will therefore be a notable one and inter esting to all who hear it. It is urgent that all Oregon students should attend. The visiting debaters are our guests and as such should be given a hearty welcome. By attending the contest on Friday we will be help ing the interests of debating in the pre paratory schools throughout the state.
