T H E SP R IN G VACAT1ON W hen the re g en ts of the U niversity of ( fregon estab lish ed the annual sp rin g vacation at E a s te r tim e they took a wise step in the rig h t direction. T he proposition of w h eth e r or not a vacation at this tim e is deisrable, is not by any m eans a d eb atab le question. N obody could get alo n g w ithout it. F aculty, stu d e n ts and even jan ito rs are glad of the w eek’s “ re fra in a tio n ” from college w ork. S p rin g fever com es to the college stu d en t in exactly the sam e way that it com es to anyone else. A w eek's rest will do all good. M any a man is like a g ian t river in an unexplored co u n try . H e has unlim it ed pow er, but it has never been utilized. O th e r men are like mill stream s. E v ery bit of the pow er th a t is in them is being put into use. A m ong eastern colleges the sub ject of sum m er base-ball is being dis cussed p re tty freely. T h e idea is gain ing w eight th a t a m an w ho is a skilled base-ball player o u g h t to be allowed to m arket his com m odity just as a stu dent does in any o th e r line of work.
