Goals for your District? 1 have been an ADD before so 1 know the duties, and am prepared to carry them out. The union has done a great deal for homecare and 1 like to do what 1 can to pay back. I"m a hard worker and believe in union ideals. 1 have been involved in the Homecare Local since its beginning. 1 talk to Homecare workers and can represent their interests at District meetings and Board meetings. As you see 1 have energy and experience. • ADD from D-2 • Homecare Council Director for 2 terms • CAPE Committee for 2 terms • Training Committee for Homecare since its beginning • Door knocking • Phone banking • Rallies • Homecare orientations 1 would like to see the locals pull together toward the goals we developed at General Council. Would like to strengthen the CAPE membership and help organize more healthcare occupations and State employees. This will help the voice of labor. Help the locals work together in unity. Reach out to fair share payers. Help with organizing new workers in D-2. Encourage people to get active and come to meetings. Encourage people to be 2 cent contributors. 1 am a Union activist in my local and want to see local county governments represented on the board. I'm a union Steward and on the bargaining team and am hoping to establish better working conditions for fellow employees. My goal is that local County Governments have a voice on the SEIU Board. One plan 1 have towards achieving that goal is to develop an orientation program & go to local work site meetings to educate & inform members about the district. To re-energize our members our members & leaders Biggest single issue/how to resolve? Other info: Initiative drives. We need to let people know that some initiatives are not good for working families. Help get our initiatives on the ballot. 1 think there are a lot of wonderful people in District 2 and if we work together we can build a stronger union and in the process enrich our lives. DISTRICT 3N: C»¡strict Director (1 position available) Name Carla Franc is DHS What are your qualifications for this office? I have been a member for 16 years. I have become more actively involved with SEIU 7 years ago. I am a union steward for Child Welfare and Sub-local 204 Chairperson for DHS. I am also the Co-Chairperson for Sub-local 204 labor/management committee. On the Statewide level, I have served as the Co-Chairperson for Statewide Labor/Management Committee for DHS. Other union experience: 1 have participated in political activities to improve living and working conditions for all Oregonians. 1 have worked phone banks and canvassed neighborhoods to encourage folks to vote. 1 marched, along with hundreds of others, on the Capitol for pay raises and preservation of worker benefits. 1 testified at Senate hearings for the improvement of working conditions of Child Welfare workers and services for DHS clients. Why are you seeking this office, your goals? 1 have a strong sense of fairness and justice. It is my hope that 1 will be able to impart these values in my Union work on behalf of our members. My goals are as follows; To educate and inspire our new union members to become actively involved, To listen to members and carry their concerns forward in other forums. Experienced at representing members and helping our voices be heard • Vice President DMV Local 735,2 years • Steward-6 yrs. • SEIU Internship Program in Wash. D.C. 2004 • Bargaining Delegate during 2003 and 2005 contract campaigns • General Council Delegate, 2000, 2002, 2004 and 2006 • Delegate to SEIU National Convention 2004 • 1 have experienced first hand the personal growth and leadership opportunities available to union members. 1 would like to help other members to become more active and find their voices as well. • SEIU has made great strides in leading the way for working families in Oregon. My goal is to see that continue and improve on the process. February 200( 5 Goals for your District? In an era of shrinking State revenues, it is important that the State budget is not balanced on the "back" of members. 1 will assist our Union grow politically stronger and resist Union busting activities and unfair, unjust, treatment of our workers. It is important to have member voices and interests heard by our legislature. Goals for your District? 1 saw increased member activism during the 2005 contract campaign at the district level. 1 would like to see us build on this by involving all locals in our district. 1 would also like to see the D3N picnic become an annual event. Biggest single issue/how to resolve? Other info: Member complacency is rampant among workers. Educating members on what they can personally do to preserve our hard earned benefits is essential. 1 pledge to educate and inspire worker activism. Union leaders need to listen and represent member interests. To listen, inspire and respond; that is my resolution. 1 will serve my Union in whatever capacity possible. My social work values, proven ethics, and experience will be best served in this capacity. Thank you for considering my nomination for this office. Biggest single issue/how to resolve? Other info: The biggest single issue has always been member apathy. 1 think improving communication in our district has helped more members become involved. 1 would like to see more of this and more education in the worksites.
