flH -O O Convention approves looking at all wavs to solve revenue crisis by Kathie Best, President, SEIU Local 503, OPEU Our influence was critical A resolution that gives the AFL-CIO Revenue Coalition the ability to explore all types of revenue when seeking solutions to the revenue shortfall inO regon was a hotly debated proposal that was passed at the AFL-CIO Convention. This policy is key to finding ways to fund the services that our members provide, protecting our clients, and rebuilding Oregon's infrastructure. Forty-two SEI U-iLocal 503, OPEU elected delegates attended the 48th annual I convention on September 7-10, 2003 at the Linn County Fairgrounds in Albany, Oregon. As the largest AFL-CIO affiliated union in Oregon, the influence o f our delegation was critical in developing AFL-CIO policy. Election Results The position o f Secretary-Treasurer o f the AFL-GlO was contested. Our delegation supported Diane Rosenbaum, who challenged the iricumbent, Brad W itt. Although Diane was not successful in her bid, SEIU Local 503, OPEU is com m itted to working with the leadership of the AFL-CIO in the years ahead to further the goals of working Oregonians,'^ am pleased to report that Tim Nesbitt was unanimously re-elected for a second term as President o f the State Federation o f the AFL-CIO. Local 503 wins Award SEIU Local 503, OPEU was awarded a Certificate of Recognition at the "Salute to Labor's Campaign Heroes Dinner" held on Monday evening o f the Cpnvention, for; I "Making the Most Phone Calls" during the .2QQ2-political cycle. I was pleased to accept the award on behalf o f our members and staff who spent many volunteer hours making sure everyone on our lists got phoned. Tanaya Brooks (Homecare) spoke eloquently in favor of exploring all types of revenue to protect funding for vital public services.
