Box 804 Waatport 97018 If you think “ Reaganomics” will improve your standard of living, you had better think again. As Lane Kirkland, president of AFL-CIO told the House Budget Committee on March 4th: “ Cuts in operating subsidies for mass transit will result in higher commuting costs for workers, in creased p ollutio n and more wasted energy . .. “Cuts in alternative energy programs will mean consumers will pay more at the pump and more for home heating . . . “Cuts in urban aid and economic de velopment« programs mean the nation will continue to pay the high cost of deteri orating facili ties, slums and unem ployment ‘The cuts do not cut the cost of social programs— they defer some and shift others to the budgets of the states, localities and the poor.” In the final analysis, federal programs that have benefited moderate-income working men and women are going to be decimated. While the Reagan ad ministration’s 10 percent tax cut will only truly benefit the top 20 percent of the taxpayers, you can see by the sampling of proposed cuts showq on this page, pro grams that are widely used by working Americans are being slashed. The state of Oregon and spe cifically you, the state and local government employes, are going to be affected by Reagan's budget slashing. Reagan’s wreckless chopping of billions from such programs as Child Nutrition, Aid to Families With Dependent Children, Comprehensive Em ployment and Training, is going to deprive needy families of assistance. Furthermore, these cuts will eliminate jobs in public govern ment.
