First Round Winning Districts Named in Membership Contest Winning districts in the first round of OSEA's six-month membership congest have been an nounced by Beth Mason, director of the Association's Membership Committee. Golf Tournament Set for August 18 OSEA's tenth annual golf tournament w ill be held Saturday, August 18, at the Santiam Golf Club near Stayton. Entry fee for this year's tournament has been raised $1.00—from $6.00 to $7.00. The extra charge is due to an increase in green fees, food and prize costs. Of the $7.00, $4.50 w ill be used to pay green fees and $2.50 w ill go toward the cost of lunch and prizes. The entry fee for members of Santiam Golf Club is $2.50. The tournament will begin at 6:30 a.m. Four somes will start from the first and tenth tees in order for all players to beon the course before 9:00 a.m. Players w ill be divided into six flights, ac cording to their gross score. Prizes will be awarded to the winners and runners-up in each flight. In addition, numerous miscellaneous prizes w ill be awarded. As in past years, a "blind bogey" system will be used to compute net scores and determine flight winners, according to Darryl Storm, chairman of the tournament committee. Here's how it works: Four handicap holes will be selected by the committee prior to the start of the tournament. Players will not be informed of the holes until after they have completed their rounds. A percentage of the strokes over par on the handicap holes will be subtracted from each player's gross score to determine his net score. Winner of the championship flight will get his name inscribed on the Governor's Trophy. It was donated to the OSEA tournament by former Gov. Mark O. Hatfield. Members who want to enter should complete the following entry form and mail it to headquarters along with their entry fee: —------—------—Clip and Mail— ----------------- —■ E N T R Y FO RM I | | I I I I J I I I I | June, 1973 The OSEA News Page 2 August 18, 1973—SANTIAM GOLF CLUB Stayton, Oregon OSEA Golf Tournament Post Office Box 2307 Salem, Oregon 97308 Please enter my name as a participant in OSEA's tenth annual golf tournament. NAME ____________________________.__ Address------------------------------------------ —------ City______________ OSEA Cha pter------------ Results for the months of April and May are as follows: District Four defeated District Two, Districts Seven and Eight (which were combined as a single unit for purposes of the contest) defeated District Nine, District Six defeated District One and District Five defeated District Three. Pairing of the winning districts for the second round of the contest (June and July) are as follows: District Four vs. Districts Seven and Eight and District Six vs. District Five. The two winning districts of that pairing will compete for the final two months of the contest (August and September) to determine the champion district for the six month period. In addition, the four losing districts will continue in the competition for the remainder of the con test. The second round pits District Two against District Nine and District One against District Three. Objective of the contest is to determine which district can achieve the highest percentage gross gain of new members during the six month con test, Mrs. Mason said. Winning districts are those that record the greatest percentage gross gain in membership in each of the contest's three rounds, she explained. That percentage is determined by dividing the total membership of a district into the total number of new members gained by that district during each two month period.
