ELEVEN OUTSTANDING applicants awarded SCHOLARSHIPS A D GRANTS-IN-AID TOTAL OF 54 MAKES THIS Yl R 'S CHOICE MOST D IFFICU LT LESLIE L. DEWEY — $100 Scholarship JAMES G . BRYANT — $200 Scholarship LESLIE L. DEWEY Central Point and Crater High School claim Leslie. He will take his $100 award to Southern Oregon College in September, where, if he continues his high school interests, he may turn out for tennis. His scholastic achievement was evidenced by his membership in the National Honor Society. In addition, Leslie was active in service and social clubs and held several student body offices. Leslie’s father, Otis L. Dewey, 222 S. 7th, Central Point, belongs to Crater Lake Chapter No. 16. ROBERT E. SELLERS — $100 Scholarship ROBERT E. SELLERS Robert Sellers, a June graduate of Sandy High School, makes his home at Rt. 1, Box 39, Boring. Portland State College is his goal this fall, and he takes with him a well rounded background in sports, music and dramatics. Robert also served in student body offices. Rob e rt’s father, Roy C. Sellers, is a member of The Caves Chapter No. 83 in Grants Pass. JAMES G. BRYANT James G. Bryant of 285 W. 14th Ave., Eugene, was awarded one of the two coveted $200 Scholarships by the Association. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Bryant. Mrs. Bryant belongs to Emerald Chapter No. 88, but will see her son off to Oregon State University in the fall. James has a bent toward Mathematics, being a member of the South Eugene High Math and Chess Clubs while in school. He is a skilled handball player and won the school’s open tournament this spring. BETTY JANE HARVEY The first of the $200 Grant-In-Aid win ners is Betty Jane Harvey of Rt. 1, Box 311, Corvallis. A graduate of Corvallis High School, she will enter Oregon State University in September. Almost all of Betty’s outside interests centered around 4-H work. In eight years she completed many projects, mainly in the Home Ec field, which will be her college major. Betty’s mother, Sarah E. Harvey, is a member of Corvallis Chapter No. 29. MRS. LEE GATLIN Evelyn M. Gatlin deserves a special award for her dedication to education, finding time (somehow) to gain her high school degree and a number of college credits through Extension, all while rais ing a family of six! Oregon College of Education is her goal in September. She and husband Lee live at 1510 B St., N.E., Salem with their family. Lee is a mem ber of Salem Chapter No. 1. He and his determined wife are active in church and PTA affairs. THOMAS L. GALLAGHER The second $200 Scholarship award winner is already in college. Thomas will apply his money toward his Sophomore year at Oregon State University. Dividing his time between the debating team and his studies, Tom will manage the former in 1963-64. He is a member of Phi Eta Sigma scholastic honorary. Tom is a Corvallis product. His father, Thomas Sr., belongs to Corvallis Chapter No. 29 and is employed at OSU. CASSIE FAY PARTRIDGE North Salem High School’s contribution to the ranks of OSEA award winners is Cassie Fay Partridge of 4855 MacLeay Rd., S.E., Salem. She will attend Oregon College of Education to prepare for a teaching career. Cassie is a member of the National Honor Society, and belonged to the Future Teachers of America as well. Church and service clubs claimed the rest of her time in and out of school. Her father, Douglas M. Partridge, is a member of Putnam-Stephens Chapter No. 23 in Salem. PATRICK E. IRISH Oregon College of Education will wel come Pat Irish this fall. He will be of fering several prime skills to OCE, one of which may be an All-Star reputation in basketball, which he gained at Central Linn High School. Pat also made the National Honor Society and was active in many student affairs. His mother, Helen E. Irish, Rt. 1, Box 131A, Shedd, is a member of Corvallis Chapter No. 29. CHARLES V. SMALLEY Charles V. Smalley, Rt. 2, Box 47, Alsea, is another winner of a $200 Grant- In-Aid from OSEA. A June graduate of Waldport High School, Charles will attend Oregon College of Education in September. His many activities in high school include varsity athletics, drama, chess, journal ism and speech. He was a member of the Future Teachers of America and attended several of their conferences. He also found time to hold several student body offices. George V. Smalley, Charles’ father, is a member of Chinook Chapter No. 58 in Alsea. BETTY JANE HARVEY - $200 G rant-In-A id PATRICK E. IRISH - $200 G ra n t-In -A id MRS. LEE G ATLIN - $200 G rant-In-A id THOMAS L. GALLAGHER - MICHAEL A. HOWARD — $100 Scholarship MICHAEL A. HOWARD Another $100 Scholarship winner is Michael Howard of 1924 Clifford, Baker. Mike will make the jump from Baker High to Oregon State University this fall, taking with him interests in music, rifle marks manship and skiing. His mother, Mrs. William D. Landers, belongs to Baker Chapter No. 37. MARY ANN ZIELINSKI The only girl in the Scholarship cate gory is Mary Ann Zielinski, a June gradu ate of Serra Catholic High School in Salem. She will make her college residence at Oregon State University in September. Mary Ann’s father, Alfred J. Zielinski, of 710 Fir GradensN.E., Salem, is a mem ber of Prison Chapter No. 56. He and Mrs. Zielinski have seen their daughter participate in many activities, including Pep Club, GAA, journalism, music and drama. Add to this student body offices and honors for scholarship and activities, and you have a full high school career.
