Launer A g a in Tops N atio n on Chemical Accuracy in Feeds James Launer, member of Agriculture Chapter No. 26, has been named the nation’s outstanding feed chemist Jot the sixth straight year. Launer’s record is based on his work I as feeds,.chemist in the Oregon Depart ment of Agriculture laboratories. His analyses were highest in collaborative samples which are distributed to more than 150 state and industry laboratories during the year. Launer’s No. 1 position has been in jeopardy only once in the last six years; in 1961 he tied for top honors with a; North Dakota chemist. Chemist Launer has been with the Oregon Department - of Agriculture for nine years. In the relatively short span of years, composition of agricultural feeds has changed considerably, he comments. When he first came, laboratory determin ations were only on the historical fat, fi ber, ash and protein content of feeds. Now antibiotics, drugs, hormones and other products appear in feeds; they add complexities to the chemical operations.
