The act provides for th e sale of bonds to finance the bonus fund, b u t req u ires th e state legislature to set the te rm and th e ra te of in térè st on the bonds, so th is and possibly otheW en- àbling legislation m ust be tak en care of before the vefp rh ns^departm ent can s ta rt issuing application blanks. Plans are going ahead, how ever, for a ¿study of th e bonus cost, for p rep aratio n of a budget to adminis^ër»W e program , and for enactm ent of necessary rules and regulations, so th a t these m atters w on’t stan d in thebw ay of m aking p ^ m e n t ^ w hen the tim e comes. The act provides paym ent of $10 for e a S m ontnÊ of dom estic service and $15 p er m onth of foreign duty, to a m axim um of|;$600, to those^, who w ere bpna fide Oregon residents for at least oné y.éa?r. im m ediately p rio r to World, W ar II active duty. T hey m u s t have served at le|p$fe90 days betw een Sept. 16, 1940, and Ju n e 30, 1946, and have been ho n o rab ly discharged. The $600 m ax im ü m d s payable to the v eteran “w hose ¿services w ere te rm in - ated; b y re a lb h of service connected disabilities and who, upon filin g s a c l S i f o r ^ ^ ^ b i l i t i ^ w i t h the V eterans »Adm inistration Iwithin th ree m onths afte r I séparation, w as ra te d not less th a n 50 percen t disabled |||9 |t |||j re su lt of such claim .” Also eligible for the m axim um is the s u rv iv o r.or survivors of the deceased v eteran whose d eath « ^ S h ||||» e d or contributed to byz a service connected disease or disability in cu rred _ in ser- vice u n d er conditions other th a n dis- honorable. If death w as not due to service, th e survivor w ill receive $ne am ount the v eteran I Mould have re v i v e d h ad he lived. Eligible survivors include th é u n re m a rried wife, child- r e m a n d parents, in th a t order. T he bonus is exem pt from state or- federal taxation, and the deadline for applying is Dec. 1, 1952. Because the act m a y req u iré th e o r i g i n c h a r g e papers as evidence of service, thbSe v eteran s w ho have jo sir‘ these papers are advised to file im m ediately w ith th e ir b ran ch of the g m e 3 forces, for a “certificate in lieu of l S discharge.” A id in filing for B o h l B l e rs can be obtained from v et- eran s’ organization^*s'erviœ ^ officers, county service officers, or the state v eteran s’ departm ent, S tate L ib rary Bldg., Salem , or 415 S.W. 11th; avenue, P ortland. State Vet's Loans Amended V oters in N ovem ber also approved an am endm ent to the Oregon W orld W ar II v eteran s’ hom e and S ^rm loan program , w hich m akes the ioan avail- abus to a p erso riw h o enlisted from an other b u t came to Oregon and lived h ere fo r;tw o years betw een daté of ¿'.discharge and Dec. 31, 1950. P re viously, he w ould have h ad to be an Oregon resident whemTie entered ser- vice to be entitled. These new ly q u alified 'veterans can apply im m ediately, as this am endm ent becam e effective Dec. 1. T hey m ay apply locally through county or post service officers, or direct toi 'th e D e t r i m e n t of V eterans’ A ffairs, Salem o r P o rtl an d ...
