22 Directors Contìnue Fight for Detter Stute Puy Scute December 20, 1947 The meeting of the board of direc tors in the headquarters office * at Sa lem was Called to order by President L. R. White at 10:00 a. m., who stated' that this meeting was scheduled by the November meeting of the directors. The roll was called by the secretary and the following officers and direc tors were present: L. R. White, presi dent; Bjarne Ericksen, junior past presi dent; J. E. Morelock, vice-president; Ruth Jaynes, secretary-treasurer; V. G, O’Neil, director of public relations; Floyd Query, director of laws and legislation;. Allen French, director of. District No. 1; R. W. Southwick, alternate director for District. No. 2; Frank L. Hall, director, of district No. 3; E. F. Chidsey, director of district No. S; E. E. Johnson, director of dis trict No. 4, and Hugh Taylor, director of district No. 3, arrived later.» President White called for the read ing of the minutes of the previous meeting. Mr. Ericksen made a motion that the reading of the minutes be dis pensed with and that if there were any corrections that they be noted on the mimeographed copy handed to each officer and director. Motion carried. Mr. Chidsey asked that a correction be, noted in the last paragraph on the first page of the mimeographed copy of the minutes. His statement that “he thought it possible to retain Mr. Smith at a lower figure” should have been followed by the words “if he could af ford it.” Mr. Chidsey explained that he did not wish Mr. Leo Smith to think that he was instigating a move to re duce his salary. Correction was so noted. R. M. Smith, director of civil serv ice, and L. A. McCoskrie, director of district No. 6, arrived. C o m m u n ic a tio n s The secretary read a letter from Sa lem Chapter N o ., 1, dated Decembe? 18, 1947, as follows: - Mr. Loren White President, O.S.E.A. Salem, Oregon Dear Sir: At a regular meeting of , Salem Chapter No. 1 held December 19, 1947, the following motion as amended was unanimously adopted: ; 'That the board of directors be re quested to instigate a state-Wide news paper publicity campaign in support of thè employees’ objectives and with par ticular reference to salary problems. If it becomes necessary to use paid space, Salem Chapter expresses its willingness to cooperate in the cost thereof.’ | It is requested that this matter be presented to the board of directors a | their December 20, 1947, meeting and that positive action be taken at this meeting. Secretary also read a communication of December 10, 1947, from the Board of Control to President White relative to the requested increase of $42 as cost of living' adjustment, which re quest was presented to the Board of Control on December 9 by represen tatives of the Association. The Board of Control stated they were in sym pathy with the request, but that at present there were no funds for such an increase. | President White stated he also had received a communication from Gov ernor Hall but that he did not have the letter with him but would present it before the meeting was over. The governor had expressed himself as be ing highly in accord with the Associa tion’s request for salary increase and
