From reports, most? of thé I highway personnel were very successful with the big game, especially^ elk, but, while we don’t ’want to^cast reflections upon the devotees of -the scatter gun, it would seem that in the reincarnation it-would be quite safe to return- as a China pheasant, g y . H. Coffey, District- Maintenance Superintendent, has been suffering from an eye infection for some time, but we -are; glad to report that he is able to resume his "duties. I Exank' Ç. Frey, Jr., for several years section foreman at Austin station, re signed December 15^11946, to take a, position with Oregon' Lumber company at Bates. He started work for the High way department in the spring of 1930, as mechanic for the Baker district. He spent two summers as oiling crew me chanic, coming to ¿Austin in the fall of 1931 as tractor operator. This job he held until ill health caused Charles Powell to relinquish the foremanship td him in 1934. He served in this ca pacity until severing his connection, with the Highway department. Frank was an untiring worker for OSEA and was always soliciting new members. He served a year as president and was sent to Salem as a delegate for the John Day chapter. Mr. and Mrs. Frey have, three daughters, two I of whom are married. A t last reports the young husbands, both ex-service men, and one a former Highway department employee, -wfere with Oregon Lumber .company. .
