Some con cern is being felt over the fact that the war has not been officially terminated and the beginning of examinations un der the Merit System is being delayed much longer than is felt necessary in view of the rapid demobilization of the armed forces. A large number of state employees are on a provisional basis and certain unrest, indecision and con fusion is noticeable. In other quarters Mr. Smith reported there was dissatis faction with the provisions of the Re tirement A ct which limit prior service credit to 20 years maximum and limit contributions by the employer ageucy to the first $200 of monthly salary. It has been suggested by these groups that credit be given for all prior service and the employer agency contribute on the first $300 or $400 of monthly salary. Mr. Smith advised that the members should consider well the possible legis lative program that the Association might wish to present to the coming legislature, pointing out that elections will soon be under way and a legislature containing many new faces will con vene in Salem in little less than a year’s time. The president expressed appreciation of the efforts and interest of those members who had come a long distance to attend the meeting and who sacrifice their time in the promotion of Associa tion and employee interests. Their salaries now range from $9,000 to $12,000. 4. T hat the salary of the Vice-Presi dent and the Speaker be increased from $15,000 to $25,000 each, and that members of Congress be paid $20,000 instead of the present $10,000. 5.
