26 CHAPTER NEWS SALEM CHAPTER No. 1 W ith the approach of winter, the chapter’s regular meetings are being well attended and are becoming more interesting. The political pot is boiling preliminary to our regular December election and all signs point to a very active program for the chapter during the coming new year. We plan to closely follow the formul ating of policies contingent to the acti vation of the Retirement and Civil Ser vice systems recently enacted into law through the commendable efforts of our State Association. This chapter ap preciates the advantages which have been properly afforded all State em ployees through our united efforts, and we intend to remain alert and coopera tive in the furtherance of our mutual objectives. The chapter has increased its mem bership materially during the summer, and has been welcoming the return of servicemen to civilian status. Among recent returnees to employment with the Highway Department we list the following: Frank Morgan, Fred Hage man, Chuck Hageman, Vic Wolfe, Roy Edgerton, Keith Flory, H . W. Libby, Harold Say, Doc Parsons, Raymond Higgins, Ray Webber, Duane Davis, F. H . Mingle, C. H. Maison, Frank Whittemore, Dana Stoddard, Bob Car penter, Jim Carlin, George Bagnall, L. C. (Tage) Carpenter, Bill Lehman, Glen Loertscher, Vernal Busch, Leland Smith, Larry Smith, Jack Holman, Os car W right, Bryson Clutter, Ray Pen- son, Hal Lehman, Bill Hovet, Kenneth Loter, Bill Grabenhorst, Hersil Acuff, Earnest Park, Louis Kerber, Herman Busch, and Lowell King. It is quite probable that we have failed to include the names of many servicemen who have recently returned to the Salem area. We welcome the re turn of all servicemen and are truly glad to have them back.
