1996 POW-WOW NEWS & NOTES Pow-ffow Royalty All girls interested in running for Miss Siletz, Junior Miss Siletz and Little Miss Siletz are encouraged to get their applications in. Applications must be received by close of business July 15, 1996, but sooner is definitely better. Need an application? Call Craig Whitehead at 1-800-922-1399 ext. 230, (541) 444-8230, or STEDCO at (541) 444-1347. Tipi Drawing Anyone interested in use of a tipi during pow-wow are encouraged to submit their names to STEDCO - deadline for entering is July 15th. Selections will be made the week of July 22nd. Help Wanted Positions are open for Bus Drivers, Maintenance, Sales, Kitchen, Food Booth, Security and Parking attendants. Pay is $6.00/hr. Call STEDCO for an application at (541) 444-1347. Bus drivers must have a CDL and good driving record. Dance Sponsors Additional funds are needed to sponsor the dance competition categories. If you, your office, or your family would like to sponsor one of the categories, please contact Karen Bell at 1-800-922-1399 ext. 214, or (541) 444-8214, or STEDCO at (541) 444-1347. Camping & Parking Fees This year, the committee will be collecting for camping and parking to help defray costs for the large garbage and utility bills generated from pow-wow. Camping will be $5/weekend for, a single camping space. Large groups, RV's, camp trailers will be more. Parking (excluding campers, vendors, etc.) will be $1 /car/day. Logo Contest Due to the short time frame STEDCO has been putting the pow wow together, the Logo Contest will not be held this year. A special thanks goes to Pam Payne and Virgene Blair who submitted logos previously. These will be kept for next years logo contest. Again, because or the short time frame, a previous submission by Randy Fisher was selected for this years pow-wow poster and T-Shirts. The Committee would like to thank Randy Fisher for allowing us to use his logo. Volunteer» Heeded Volunteers are needed to assist with the pow-wow. Artist Peggy O'Neal will sign prints at the Nesika Illahee Pow-Wow Siletz Tribal Economic Development Commission is publishing two limited edition prints with posters and cards by artist Peggy O'Neal. The editions of 1250 signed and numbered prints will go on sale during the Nesika Illahee Pow Wow. Ms. O'Neal will be at a special STEDCO booth to sign prints and posters during the event. This year the artist completed a series of murals in the Siletz Tribal Administration Building on the theme of the traditional Feather Dance and two of those murals, the male and female feather dancers, have been selected by the artist and STEDCO to be recreated as paintings and published as the first limited editions. Prints will retail at $ 125.00 and poster at $ 20.00. Pow-Wow Donations Donation letters were sent out to hundreds of businesses and individuals. We are slowly getting donations from some of them. We will be posting their names at the pow-wow and in our advertisement. Please stop by and thank these businesses for their support.
