My name is Fawn ¿Keene, and I was your ¿Jr. Miss Siletz for the ¿year 92-93. I feel that I ¿did a w o n d e rfu l jo b .I • followed every rule and • regulation because that • was my duty. I signed a • paper com m itting m yself • to stay sober, to not get • pregnant, and to show the • m ost re s p e c t to w a rd s • m yself, others, and my ¿ tribe I grew up with ¿ alcohol & drugs as a ¿ e v e ry day th in g , and ¿ while I was reigning as ¿ "ROYALTY'*, I was clean ¿ and sober. I knew the ¿ consequences if I did not ¿ obide by that rule. I've ¿ been thinking of running ¿ for Miss Siletz and I have ¿ an example for you- If I • was to becom e yo ur, • Miss Siletz , and during • the end of my reign (May- • June), became pregnant • • and broke that rule, would • I still reign as Queen? I • don’t think so. I would be ; push ed out of th e re J Im m e d ia te ly . You sign J to commit yourself, that ¿ means you w ill give It ¿ your fu llest, and if you ¿ cannot do so, you shall ¿not reign no more. A • couple of years ago a • crown was taken away • from from a young lady for • "D IS R E S PE C T". W hat is alcohol & drugs? When it enters your body to take over, push your s p irit asid e, does th a t mean "DISRESPECT"? I would be ashamed to go on d a n c in g a fte r drinking. I would have let down my Tribe ,my Elders , and myself. The adults io the community need to set an exam ple, and maybe your fam ily life is hard, but should you "DRINK"? I did not drink or use while I was "RO YALTY". If our Tribe is going to make candidates sign a paper that has rules, and the Council does not follow through with them, than why have a royalty court if no one can fo llo w th ro u g h w ith "COMMITMENT"? We are to be PROUD, not ASHAMED . Fawn M. Darcie Rene' Roberts will be presented her High School Diploma at the Hult Center in Eugene on June 2nd. Darcie definitely has the potential to achieve, as her sisters have already done. These three young women represent what hard work, dedication and sacrifice can do. I'm very proud to call all of them-Daughter. Joan M. Kimberly Ann (Fisher) Mesa graduated with a certificate for Medical Assistant and is currently employed by 6 cardiologists in Boise, ID). Misty Marie Fisher graduated with a certificate in Computerized Office Man agement and is currently To The Editor, We would like to extend our most heartfelt thanks to everyone who came to see our Mom (Madge Mason) while she was in "G ood Sam aritan H ospital", in Portland, after having a quadruple bi-pass. Your visit helped her days go by more quickly and to find the strength to have a more speedy recovery. We would also like to Thank the following for the balloons, cards, flowers, plants, money, phone calls, and prayers. What a smile you put on Mom's face! She would say,"Well aren't they nice. We're going to have to thank them." Madge Mason's Kids no=>r Dear i Tribal Members , My name is Violet, my mother is Vera and my grand mother was Mary Fairchild- Wallace. She past on in 1972, she was one of the greatest people in the world. I loved her deeply, and I miss her very much I owe her alot for teaching me about some of lifes toughest challenges, her spirit walks with me every day, and I know that - no matter what happens to me in this world, I know that I will have a place with her tomorrow. I was writing to give thanks to the ones that has given me so much support to get a higher education, Rena, Linda, and Mary Ukockis. They are real good to me. But, I would really like to thank a very special friend, Shari, for putting up with my lifes ups and downs. She has * been there at the drop of a hat, and I appreciate her kind and loving ways. There isn't many people like her left. Well since I've been here, there has been alot of things happening that I don't appreciate, for instance the drug and alcohol abuse that has taken over our Indian people, and we wonder why that our children act the way that they do. It is our responsibility as parents to teach them about respect for themselves and also to respect others. We need to discipline them and teach them that life isn't easy, but it is what they make it to be. And I would like to say to the person that called my mother names, that she is a good person and you have no right to say that she is a certain name, if you don't even know her. She hasn't done anything to you to give you that right. She hasn't any unkind words for anyone unless someone says mean things to her. I can understand that there is alot of stuff going on in your life that would make it hard to cope with people but you don't have to be rude .
