July 1992 Arthur S. Bensell Memorial Fund and Scholarship Arthur S. Bensell was a Tribal Council Member, Tribal Chairman, educator, and civic leader. Art spent many years In service to his community and Tribe as Mayor of the City of Siletz and Tribal Chairman of the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians. Art attended Ohio State University and graduated from Heidelberg College In 1934. He served as Teacher, Principal, and Reservation Principal In Minnesota, Alaska, and North Dakota. Upon returning to the Siletz Area, Art became Involved In tribal affairs and served many years on the Tribe's Education Committee always striving for better educational opportunities for tribal members. In loving memory of Arthur S. Bensell, a Memorial fund has been established through the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians. The Memorial Fund will be used to honor and award Tribal Members in college or vocational training programs. The responsibility of operating the Arthur S. Bensell Memorial fund has been given to the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians' Education Committee. Funding for the Memorial is obtained by various fundraising activities/raffles held by the Committee throughout the year and by donations from public and private sources. Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated and tax deductible. Donations may be made to: The Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians, Arthur S. Bensell Memorial Fund, PO Box 549, Siletz, OR 97380. Nicely embroidered ball caps are on sale to raise funds for this memorial at $10.00 each in the Area Offices. Arthur S.
