2 July 1992 ***Public Notice*** Notice of Intent to Apply for Community-Development Block Grant The Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians intends to apply to the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development for a $325,000 Community Development Block Grant Award. < Community Development Block Grant Funds can be used for housing rehabilitation and construction, home purchase assistance, economic development, public services, community and public facilities (water & sewer systems, street improvements, etc.) Tribal Member's recommendations on what should be included in the Community Development Block Grant can be presented at a public meeting Monday, July 6 at 7:00 p.rri. af the Siletz Tribal Community Center or by filling out and returning the form found on this page. A copy of the Tribe's Community Development Block Grant Application will be available in each area office for Tribal Member's review beginning July 13, 1992. Consensus Poll for Block Grant The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) is currently scheduled to submit an application/proposal for funding of the proposed FY program on or before July 31, 1992. The present shortage of available housing on the Reservation compounded by the existing sub-standard housing conditions are areas of high priority by the CDBG Program. The CDBG Program would very much like to poll the General Council at large on the proposed priorities currently under review. The proposed FY CDBG Program may provide for public facilities, housing rehabilitation, or economic development. Currently the CDBG Program is reviewing the following categories for development prioritization. Dear Tribal Members: At the suggestion of several tribal members, I am currently w riting a news report on Siletz Contract Health Services for publication in the next issue of the Siletz News II. I'm very interested in hearing what other tribal members have to say about the way tribal health care works for Siletz tribal members. Sincerely, Andy Viles ***Jacket Found*** A Nesika lllahee Jacket was found at the Longview YMCA in Longview, Washington in 1983 or 1984. The gentleman who found the jacket has held on to it all these years until he heard the Tribe's name and location on the News two weeks ago. He then contacted us and let us know that he had the jacket in his possession and would like to return it to the rightful owner. How's that for honestly and diligence?! It really renews ones faith in humanity! If you believe that this is your jacket, contact Steven Johnson at (206) 577-6069. And to Steven, thanks from all of us! EDITOR'S NOTE: Since Memorial Day Weekend, a great deal of grief has been felt in this community over the loss of several loved ones. All of our lives were touched by these good people and all of our lives will be changed by their passing. Hopefully we will draw energy from the strength they shared with us here on earth to reinforce the relationships with those bf us that are left behind so that what they believed in, their hopes and dreams can be carried on through our actions in a way that honors their memory.
