The wedding is to be held in Reno and the reception will be held in Portland in July. Merrill/McKnight Mr. - and Mrs. Alfred R. Merrill! announce the marriage of their daughter Allene' (Punky) Raye to Joseph Paul McKnight, the son' of Clarice McKnight. The wedding will , commence on Saturday, June 17, 1992, 2:00 p.m., at the Berean Assembly of God Church, 275 South 70th Street, Springfield, Oreg< Reception following. ' By: Teresa Miller 3 Graphics Courtesy of Sheila Corley All rights reserved Birth Announcements Walt Klamath, Selene Lynch, and Pat Darcy are three of five recipients of the highest honor given Indian organizational workers in Oregon. Following a selection process by tribes from across the state, Siletz participants received 198 out of 205 votes. Walt Klamath, Drug and Alcohol Counselor for the Tribe, received the Oregon Indian Elder of the Year award for his work in drug and alcohol counseling. Walt is a certified substance abuse counselor and I'm sure you have read his monthly columns in this newsletter. He adds a touch of humor to his dedication which we all enjoy. He works with individuals and families, transports tribal members to treatment centers and appointments, supports those facing court hearings and promotes Alcoholics Anonymous with great vigor. Walt also takes part in the raft trips each summer, Elder activities, has established an annual recovery retreat for rehabilitation each year, is a member of the Volunteer Fire Department and the list goes on. Selene Lynch, our Tribal JOM/ C o o r d in a t o r /L ib r a r y A id e , w as honored as Oregon Indian Educator of the Year. Selene teaches beading, moccasin making, regalia construction to our JOM and Title V students and etiquette to our Siletz Royalty. She has given numerous presentations to various groups on Siletz culture, customs, and traditions. She coordinates summer programs and summer camps for our youngsters and conducts the college career day. When you stop by the library, you will see some very nice displays she has put together for the Tribe also. . P a tr ic ia D a rc y w as nam ed Oregon Indian Leader and Lay Person of the Year. Pat volunteers her time to the Title V Program passing on traditional ways to our upcoming generation. She's dedicated to sharing her knowledge with those that wish to learn as is evident jh the many projects she has tackled over the years. Pat is an active member of the Pow Wow Committee and coordinates the Eagle Feather Ceremony held each, year for Native American High School x^x^x^x<&x^x^.- Baby Hill Yolanda (Belgard) and Steven Hill [announce the birth of their son, Jordan David ^Alexander Hill, born April 28th, 1992 at 6:32 [a.m. at Emanual Hospital in Portland, Oregon. Jordan's grandparents are Debra 'Mahul, Ron Belgard, Eva Louise Palmer and 'Robert Hill. Baby Butler Sabrina Jean Butler was born on April 13, 1992 at Salem Memorial Hospital. She weighed 7 lbs., 11 oz. and was 19 inches long. Sabrina's Mom is Jamie (Bird) Butler from Yakima, W ashington. Sabrina's grandparents are Laverne Jean Butler (for the fourth time) from Salem, Great Grandmother Martha Moody (Case) from Dallas, Oregon and Great Grandfather the late Bruce Butler of Siletz, Oregon. CONGRA TULATIONSHH Happy Father’s Day June 21!!! B I Graduates. . All three of these people have shown a great deal of dedication to the Tribe, particularly working with youngsters. ; Congratulations to all of you, you make us proud! $
