12 April 1992 Code of Conduct for Miss Siletz, Little Miss Siletz & Honorary Princess Courts As a contestant for the title of Miss or Jr. Hiss Siletz & Honorary Princess, you represent yourself, your family, and your tribe. You are in the public eye and it would not be in your best interest to subject yourself to any kind of behavior or conduct which would have an adverse affect on yourself, your family, or the Siletz Tribe, if you should be selected as Hiss or Jr. Hiss Siletz. It is very important for you, as an individual, to maintain certain moral standards for yourself, now and in the future. Therefore, it is mandatory that your behavior/conduct, at all times, be above reproach. This means that you will refrain from the use of alcohol or drugs, using profanity, smoking in public, and fraternizing with a boyfriend by kissing or intimate affection in public. This kind of behavior/conduct will not be tolerated. Any infringement of the above moral standards will result in disqualification as Hiss, Jr. Hiss Siletz & Honorary Princess Courts. It is understood that each contestant must be single, no dependents. Siletz royalty will be required to display respect, friendliness, and cooperation at all times to everyone, in addition to having a good attitude about herself. Siletz royalty is expected to attend and be on time for all scheduled activities and be prepared to participate fully upon arrival. The Siletz Pow Wow Committee and the Siletz Tribe is not responsible for contestant's personal belongings, loss of articles or injury. Remember, you are the Hiss Siletz, Jr. Hiss Siletz and Honorary Princess Court. Stay together, dance together, and be available for official duties at all times. Hiss Siletz and Jr. Hiss Siletz will wear their crowns at every function that they are representing the tribe in their respective positions. (With the exception of competition dancing.) Honorary Princesses will wear their sashes at every function as well. J The Hiss Siletz and Jr. Hiss Siletz court will be required to wear their traditional outfits as well as dance traditional, (inter-tribal) The courts are expected to be dressed in their full regalia from grand entry to the end of the pow wow. The Honorary Princesses can dance either traditional or fancy. Each member of all courts will remove their crowns and sashes during all competition that they participate in. To be eligible as a contestant you must meet the following criteria by September 1st: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Candidates must be enrolled tribal members. Candidates must be single, no dependents. Candidates for Hiss Siletz must be age 18-24. Candidates for Jr. Hiss Siletz must be age 13-17. Honorary Princesses must be age 8-12. • The Hiss Siletz and Jr. Hiss Siletz courts will compete for these titles during the pageant. The Honorary Princess court will be non-competitive and will participate in all events and training that the Jr. and Hiss Siletz courts will be attending. All (Honorary Princesses) will be of equal standing. Crowns will be given to the chosen Hiss Siletz and Jr.. Hiss Siletz. Honorary Princesses will all receive sashes. Pow Wow officials and the Confederated Tribes of Siletz are in no way responsible for the selection of the Hiss/Jr. Hiss Siletz. The decision of the judges is final. Pow Wow News Due to steadily increasing costs, the Pow Wow Committee has been forced to charge for the Salmon dinner on Pow Wow Sunday. Last year donations did not even cover the cost of the salmon which the Committee must purchase for the dinner. The prices will be $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for dinner. Vendor prices have also been increased. Non-tribal member vendors will pay $150.00 for each fifteen feet of frontage and Tribal members will pay $100.00 for each fifteen feet of frontage. Logo Contest The Pow Wow Committee is looking for a new logo for the 1992 Nesika lllahee Pow Wow. The theme this year is "Circle of Friendship - Honoring Our Elders".
