PAGE 4 - SILETZ, OREGON' August 1990^ fish D is fh r 6 O T iB !P * ’ BÉÂDÊb ÀRT EXHIBIT By: Teresa Miller, Hunting & Fishing Liaison This was the first fish distribution that yours truly has been involved in and not being one to put things off, I began worrying about it several months ago. Through the records I found and by talking with others I came to one conclusion and that was, there is nothing certain when it comes to fish distribution. The fish come to the dam when they are ready to, and not before. There is just no way to know for certain when they will arrive and no way of knowing how many. M em bers of the O regon S tate Department of Fish and W ildlife went out of their way for us this year to make the fish available to us as soon as possible....many phone calls were made back and forth to coordinate the effort and keep me informed about the migration of the Salmon. A. number of people were responsible for the success of this years distribution. They gave me advise and encouragement, rolled up their sleeves and pitched in, and basically w alked me through the entire process. In particular, Kristi Martin-Bayya, told me what to expect, the supplies I would need and the basics of the entire process. Bristo Bayya, Benny Marzan, and myself went to the dams on three different occasions. Bristo and Benny cleaned the Salmon all three times, and I have never seen anyone do it so fast. Ralph and Calvin Easter picked up at Foster Dam for the Springfield Area Office and stayed to .help Jpad fhq je s V of our fish. Bob Tom transported for the Salem Area Office and Kelly S trickler fo r the Portland. Area Office. Steve Krieg, our Tribal Forester, gave us the use of one of the forestry trucks with the canopy to insure that the Salmon would not get heated up. Jay Christensen, Rocky Hoiness, Robert Kentta, Monte Kentta and Dotty Highley all worked on the distribution here in Siletz and many others worked at the other Area Offices. Danny Rilatos helped to coordinate the effort.Thank you to Mike Freels and Steven Berntsen. Mike allowed us to us the STEDCO facilities when they were not in use for commercial processing and Steve helped with the clean up. Evert , the STEDCO crew pitched in and helped on the filleting at the end of the distribution. The STEDCO office staff fielded all phone calls and put up with total choas on two separate occasions. Because fish have a mind of their own, and if was uncertain when they would arrive at the dams, we had to change the dates of the distribution on more than one occasion. We appreciated your patience when that happened. It was a real learning experience for me and I want to thank everyone for helping me through this first year...we hope you enjoyed HUNTING SEASON NEARS BY: Teresa Miller, Hunting & Fishing Liaison H unting season is ra p id ly approaching.
