SILETZ, OREGON MISS SILETZ APPLICATIONS BEING TAKEN MISS SILETZ GUIDELINES OF ROYALTY: (1) Candidates must be enrolled tribal members. (2) Candidates must be single with no dependents. (3) Candidates for Miss Siletz must be age 14 to 18. (Must be 14 by September 1). (4) Must be able to attend all designated organ izatio na l m eetings, activitie s, parades, fund raisers and scheduled appearances, unless a written request is submitted to the pageant coordinator and absence is excused in advance, (5) You will be disqualified if you miss three scheduled events without just cause and your duties will then be performed by the first runner up. (6) You must be drug and alcohol free, any misconduct will result In disqualification from the court. (7) lf at any time you become pregnant, you will be disqualified and will lose your title. (8) You must have full; regalia. (9) You must have a willingness io dance at all pow wows and scheduled activities. (Assistance with dance instruction will be available, if needed). (10) You must have a willingness to speak in front of a large, group. COREY KLINE WINS AGAIN!!! (11) You must be willing, by your behavior to represent your tribe in the best possible manner. (12) Vou are expected to show good judgement and not participate in activities that would bring adverse publicity to the Tribe while you are a member of the court. (13) The above guidelines apply to each candidate. If not honored, you will be disqualified from the court and will forfeit any title won. (14) There may be other requirements not mentioned in these guidelines at this time which you will be required to follow. Corey who attends Siletz Middle School, is part of a chess team coached by handicapped learner specialist, Bill Barrese. After winning the regional matches February 3 at Yaquina View School in Newport, Corey and five "other students from Siletz School were set to go on to the State Finals in Portland. The Chess tourniment began on Friday, March 9, at the World Forestry Center in Portland and lasted for 2 days. The first day a team of four students, including Norman Williams, Heather Schones, Mike Bisel and Jeff DeBusk, 3rd through 6th grade students, participated. Overall the Siletz team, which is in its first year, placed 13th out of 32 teams at State. On Saturday, March 10, Corey and his teammate Mark Ross competed in the Chess .Tourniment in the individual category. Each- round lasted for 1 hour and 45 minutes. Corey stated that he played 5 rounds, which calculates out to 8 hours and 45 minutes in playing time. He won four of his five matches. Corey placed 3rd in the State and received a nice trophyv . . . . CONGRATULATIONS!!!
