SILETZ, OREGON, AUGUST, 1985 - PAGE 7 Tribe Prepares For Pow- Wow Preparations have been begun by tribal employees and the Pow-Wow Committee for the Siletz Tribe's an nual Pow-Wow. RAFFLE: Several young ladies are presently selling raffle tickets for the Miss Siletz and "L ittle " Miss Siletz pageants. The young ladies w ill be selling raffle tickets from now until noon on August 18, 1985. The tickets cost $1.00 each, and the raffle gifts include Pendleton blankets, a cassette stereo, A God's eye, a Siletz In dian Basket, a night at the Embarcadero located on the bayfront in Newport, Oregon, and many other nice gifts. The raffle gifts will be drawn for on Sunday after noon of the Pow-Wow, also the gifts w ill be on display Friday, August 16, 1985, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the Tribal Community Center. Running for Miss Siletz are Luella Simmons, Debbie Brown, Lisa Logan, and for "L ittle " Miss Siletz are Ronell W elch and Melissa Butler. The Siletz Tribe has received this year’s allotment of deer and elk hunting tags. These tags are available to Tribal Members Only. Listed below are the hunting seasons the tags are available for. There will be further information available on sign-up and drawings for tags in September’s issue of The Siletz Newsletter, So Watch for It! Below are the Hunting Season, opening/closing dates, type of hunt, and those seasons that tags will be drawn for are indicated. They are called Tolowa Dancers, and they will be dancing throughout the Pow-Wow. ELK (RIFLE) Season Booths: There w ill be a number of Arts ^ n d Crafts booths and food booths. The tribe will have Ñesika II- lahee Days T-shirts and buttons on sale in the Com munity Center all weekend. A month earlier the prohibition was adopted by the IHS hospital a t Zuni, New Mex ico. The Kearns Canyon, Arizona hospital was the first IHS hospital to ban smoking com pletely, adopting the policy late in 1983. The prohibition applies to hospital staff, patients and visitors. Breakfast: Breakfast w ill be served on Saturday and Sunday mornings. The cost is $2.50 a plate, and the plate w ill include eggs, hashbrowns, toast and a choice of ham, bacon, or sausage. There is now a toll free num ber for anyone w rthin the S tate of Oregon, so collect calls are no lo n g e r necessary. Also, the Tribe has eliminated so m e te le p h o n e num bers which were not necessary. These in c lu d e 444-2536, 444-2537, 444-2538, and 444-2528. The following is a list of num bers to call to reach Siletz staff: 1-800-922-1399 (T oll F ree Anywhere Within the State of Oregon) 444-2532, 444-2533 and 444-2534. 1st ANNUAL PO W W O W Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Community of Oregon August 10-11,1985 The Pow W ow w ill be held at the Grand Ronde Elementary School. There will be Camping facilities, Craft tables, traditional Indian Games, and a traditional Feast. Feast time: Saturday at 3:00 - 5:00 p.m., and Sunday at 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. There will be raffles, including prizes such as a 151/2 ft. driftboat and trailer, a 30-30 cal. rifle and scope, afghans, shawls, decorative house items and an Indian crib blanket. A men's slowpitch softball tournament w ill be played.
