PARENT TRAINING WORKSHOP On Ju ly 30th, the T ribe’s Indian Child W elfare P ro g ram will again p resent a t r a i n i n g w o rk s h o p fo r p arents of tribal children. The workshop will be in Springfield a t the R ed Lion Motor Inn, located on the east side of the 1-5 F reew ay a t the Beltline Exit. The workshop will be from 9 a.m . to 4 p.m . Child care and t r a n s p o r t a t i o n w ill b e a v a ila b le upo n re q u e s t. P resen ters will include Jim C ooper s p e a k in g on discipline and respect, and Susan Hoffman talking on alcohol related p arenting problem s. S v c e s ............................................. . ... - 444-2514 SUMMER YOUTH PROGRAM - The 1983 Youth Opportunity Program began on July 5. The program will last through August 31, 1983. The youth crew consists of nine Tribal members, the ages range from 14 thru 21. The projects that are to be performed by the youth crew are grounds-keeping of Government Hill, community service, assisting Tribal members, construction of annual Pow-Wow and yard work for the Siletz Tribal Offices. TITLE IV-A INDIAN EDUCATION We have just completed our first activity for the month of July. Our first encam pm ent w as held at M oonshine P a r k (u p p e r Logsden) July 11th thru the 17th. The last day was fam ily d ay w hich w as fo r a ll p a re n ts and f a m ily m em bers of the students who p a rtic ip a te d in the e n c a m p m e n t. B -B -Q chicken, various salads, In dian fried bread, pork spare- ribs and rice egg rolls and d esserts w ere served as m ain dishes. Approxim ately 60 students and adults w ere p r e s e n t th ro u g h o u t th e encam pm ent, 40 of those be ing T ribal m em bers. It w as a very successful week and fun w as had by all. Looking forw ard to the 2nd Moon shine E ncam pm ent which will be August 15-19. Thursday, July 15 during the encam pm ent, we loaded u p th e D a n c e G ro u p “Selene’s Many M occasins” to m eet the Mt. Hebo Wagon T rain which arrived in Tilla mook, OR. the night before. T hey in v ited our d ance group to dinner and to per form for the pioneers around the cam pfire. We had a rriv ed a t T illa m o o k e a r ly enough before dinner, so took the students to the “ Pioneer M useum” where th e y w e r e v e r y m u c h im pressed with all the rooms and displays of m any /dif ferent things. In their find ings a t the Museum, they spotted Indian baskets which had been donated by the Siletz Tribe and a rose bead ed b at th at also had been m ade by a Siletz Tribal M ember. They w ere all ex cited and glad th a t they p a r ticipated. The following is a schedule of our planned activities for the rest of the sum m er; July 27 — “ O.S.U. Horner M useum” August 6 — D ance Group to Toledo L ibrary August 10 — 6:30; 11 — 7:30; 12 — 8:30: Beach excursions to Lincoln City and Seal Rock for traditional g a th e rin g of v a r i o u s seafoods. August 13 — D ance Group to Astoria August 15-19 — Moonshine E ncam pm ent ' August 20 — Toledo Sum m er F estival (Dance Group to be in parade) August 19-21 — Siletz Pow- Wow (D a n c e g r o u p to participate) A ugust 24 — V isit to “ O.S.U. August only the tim e will change to 10:00-1:00. Tutoring is available daily in any subject m atter now thru August 26th.
