3. SILETZ HIGHER EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP POLICY FY 81 H. Funding Priorities (cont,): Grants to attend private institutions and out-of-state institutions may be awarded in cases where a student can demonstrate that his/her field of study is unavailable within the state or that attendance at a private school is justified in that it better meets the student’s needs. Generally, grants to such institutions shall be based on the amount needed by a student attending a state supported school; however, the Scholarship Review Staff may grant exceptions to this rule. I. Conditions for Continuation of Funding: Grants shall be awarded only to students who remain in good academic standing (usually 2.0 or better for undergraduates - 3.0 for graduate students) while enrolled full-time (usually 12 credit hours per term for undergraduates/9 credit hours for graduate students) and normally for a maximum of 12 terms for undergraduates. Students placed on academic probation will have one term after being placed on probation to raise their G.P.A. to a 2,0 or better. Students placed on probation a second time who do not bring their accumulative G.P.A. up to at least a 2,0 within two terms will be reviewed by the Staff to determine whether their grant shall be continued. Students who have lost their grants, but raised their accumulative G.P.A. to a 2.0 or better without assistance through this program may be given funding priority and have their grant reinstated. Each student receiving funds through this program shall submit a copy of each term’s grade report to the Scholarship Staff/ Funding for the next term shall not be released until the Staff is in receipt of the previous term’s grade report or a statement from the student explaining any delay in providing grade reports. J. Duration of Funding; Normally, undergraduate students shall be encouraged to take sufficient course loads to complete a degree with a declared major in 12 terms or four academic years. K. Conflict of Interest: When a member of the Higher Education Scholarship Staff receives an application from one of the following: husband, wife, grandmother, grandfather, father, mother, stepmother, stepfather, stepchild, sister, brother, stepsister or stepbrother it will be considered a case of ’’conflict of interest’’ and that official will not be involved in processing the application. It will be processed by the other members of the Scholarship Staff. L. Existing Grant Awards: Grants awarded by the Bureau of Indian Affairs for fall term, i980 shall be re-assessed during 'Winter term 1981. Grant amounts may be adjusted by the Scholarship Staff as a result of that re-assessment.
