District Superintendent Art Parrow explained to those present the need for an election to be held on June 30. The voters of the School TO Medics honor police officer District will be asked to approve a one year levy of $456,195. This amount is in excess of the District tax base approved last November. Along with most other Oregon school districts, Vernonia School District 47J has suffered severe cutbacks in revenues to be received from state and federal sources. Superintendent Parrow gave, as an example, the following comparison: During the current 1980-81 year revenues from sources other than property tax were budgeted at $1,555>431. Next year the anticipated Vernonia High School amount will be only $579,384, a decrease of approximately 50 PRINCIPAL'S AWARDS 1981 percent. On November 10, 1980, while eating dinner at the Eagle Office Restaurant, Vernonia Police Department Officer Bud Ashcraft faced a crisis and years of training paid off. While seated at his table a distraught mother rushed into the restaurant carrying her infant who had suddenly quit breathing. Ashcraft kept the child alive using mouth to mouth resuscitation and rushed to meet a waiting ambulance crew still breathing life into the child in his arms. Ashcraft’s prompt action is credited with saving the infant’s life. Ashcraft was honored last week at an Ambulance Association meeting where Ashcraft was presented with the Association’s Life Saver Award for his quick action. BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT Mounts announce birth of baby boy Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Mounts of Mist Drive are the parents of a brand new baby boy, David John, bom May 10. He weighed in at 7 pounds 8 ounces and was 21 inches long. He joins one sister Heidi David was bom at East Moreland General Hospital in Portland. Mrs. Ruth Mounts, mother of Dennis, of Pismo Beach, California, plans to return home on Monday, having spent two weeks here caring for their home. inside this issue......
