Don Dunaway City Recorder PUBLIC FORUM NOTICE OF BUDGET COMMITTEE MEETING NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, pursuant to ORS 294.401, that a meeting of the Budget Committee of Administrative School District No. 47J will be held on the 13th day of April, 1981 at 8 pm for the purpose of receiving the budget message and budget document of said district for the fiscal year 1981-198^. This is a public meeting where deliberations of the Budget Committee will take place, and any person may appear and discuss proposed programs with the Budget Committee at that time. A copy of the budget document will be available at 475 Bridge Street, Vernonia, Oregon 97064 at the time of the meeting. Arthur M. Parrow Budget Officer 4-2 Fishhooks cause injury To the Editor: With the arrival of fishing weather comes a myriad of injuries caused by fishhooks left carelessly about. Serious injury and even death can occur when animals try to swallow bits of fish or bait, left on the hooks, pet owners. Not only are animals vulnerable to injury from these notorious pieces of metal, but young children and adults have been known to receive painful if not dangerous injuries by stepping on them. The prospect of a barbed fishhook through a toe would appeal to few people, and the accompanying medical bill would be even less appealing. If you fish, please do so responsibly, taking your refuse with you and being particularly careful not to leave behind fishhooks or broken glass, which may cause injury. If you have children who fish, please remind them that they have a responsibility to be thoughtful of others. Whether you or your children fish or not, it would be wise to pick up harmful debris that you find and dispose of it properly. The fishhook you leave behind this week could come home in your pet’s tongue or your child’s foot next week. Charolette Klinger PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT Central Cascade Regional Council of Parents Without Partners conference and dance will be held at the Longview Moose Lodge at 921 Washington Way, Longview, Washington on April 18, 1981. Conference is for members only, beginning at 9 am. The dance is open to the single public and begins at 9 pm. Live music is provided, no host bar, and admission price is $5 for the dance. Call Susann Trevena at 577-5932 for further information. VHS grads seen as "group of fine citizens To the Editor: I am writing in regard to our graduates of Vernonia High. I think graduation should be the happiest year of a young person’s life. There should be a carefree feeling and activities to create this atmosphere along with their regular learning This could be obtained by cooperation between the pupils and teachers. Along with discipline kids need a lot of tender loving care. 1981 will graduate a group of .fine citizens so let’s send them off with happy school memories as an encouragement to future students. Sadie Miller NOTICE The track meet scheduled for April 16, 1981 has been cancelled and rescheduled for April 10, 1981 at Seaside at 3 pm. $ CITY OF VERNONIA BUDGET HEARING SECOND NOTICE The Vernonia City Council will hold a Public Hearing for the purpose of discussing the budget for the City of Vernonia for the fiscal year 1981-82 at 7:30 pm on April 16, 1981 at the City Hall. Anyone is invited to attend and be heard. A copy of the budget document may be inspected between the hours of 8 am and 5 pm at the Vernonia City Hall. The first Notice and Summary was published in the Vernonia Freedom on Match 26,1981. Don Dunaway City Recorder 4-2 SELF HELP HOUSING PROJECT New housing possibilities open In the near future families who could not afford the monthly payments and the down payment of a new home may be able to find a way to get started in their dream of home ownership. The Columbia County Housing Authority and Farmers Home Administration are trying tp implement a Self-Help Housing Project. The Self-Help concept began in Nova Scotia, and has spread throughout the United States and will be tried here in Columbia County, contingent on federal budget cuts. The Self-Help method utilizes the labor< of participating families to, help reduce the construction cost of a new home. Six to ten families are grouped together in a legal entity. Every participating family agrees to provide up to 30 hours per week labor for the construction of those six to ten houses that the group will build. These hours may be contributed by any family member or very close friends that are identified prior to STARTING. When all the houses of that group are completed each family can move into their home. This way the group is able to make bulk purchases on items that are included in every house like 2x6’s, doors, windows, roofing material, etc. Each participating family must be able to qualify far a Farmer’s Home Rural Housing ^oan. Eligibility requirements include: 1) The adjusted annual income of the families cannot exceed $15,600 per year, 2) the applicant must have repayment ability or else a co-signer, 3) you cannot own a dwelling now which is structurally sound and large enough for your needs, 4) reside as a citizen in any of the 50 states. If you think you would qualify and you are .willing to participate in building your new home, call the housing program at 397-1675, and give us your name, location and approximate income. Car wash huge success To the Editor: Once again the citizens of Vernonia have shown their support of youth groups. The Campfire car wash was a huge success! We want to thank all of you who came to the car wash. A special thanks to those who donated extra money and snacks to sustain us! We are looking forward to our trip and because of Vernonia’s generosity we will be able to go. Many, many thanks.
