The pre-school is located next to the school bus garage. Hours for the school are 9 am to 5 pm and the little ones are provided hot lunches and snacks. An experienced teacher will be instructing small groups as well as offering arts, crafts and music. If you need more information call 755-2293 or 755-2501. Recently the Nehalem Valley Community Church’s Young People for Christ held a 30 hour fast. The young people earned $816 which was turned over to World Vision. The money will be sent to Africa’s poor and will feed 48 adults for one month. They are happy to report 14 completed the fast. Jim Reeher will be holding the first hunter safety class March 24 at 7 pm at the Jewell School. This meeting will see how many are interested in such a class and it is open to all young folks eleven years and older. If your youngster is younger than 11, come to this first meeting and if there is room, they will be admitted. The course will consist of eight sessions and parents are reminded that the same night is open shop. It was stated last week that the community chorus needed more sessions. They say they will change the night of the meeting if it will help increase the turnout. Why not call 755-2225 or 755-2385 and give them your views. In addition to singers, another piano player is needed. Library books are available to valley residents. The librarian will also order any' book requested from the state library. This service is held every Wednesday evening from the hours of 7 pm to 9 pm. Why not come out and join the oil painting class? It meets every Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 pm at the school. Several who joined the group surprised themselves with talent they didn’t know they had. Nineteen Jewell Senior Citizens enjoyed their first bi-monthly meeting in March on Friday the 13th. Hostess Julie Fraser had the hall ready for the group when they met at noon for a bountiful pot-luck luncheon. Part of the group enjoyed tables of pinochle the balance of the afternoon, while the rest of the group played bingo. Those attending were: Helen and Francis Nordstrom, Roy and Cassie Henderson, Jane Sunderland, Fannie Jones, Vera Soderback, Pat Olson, Rotha Fairchild, Margaret Tweedy, Ivan and Margaret Hoover, Amelia Hickey, Grace Berg, Chalres Frazer, S.J. and Olivia Downing and Mick and Ruth Nogle, as well as the hostess, Mrs* Terry(JuIie) Frazer. People who love to play cards can have a two-fold meeting on March 28. After partaking of the smorgasbord, there will be a card party across the street at the grange hall, or stay at the school for a free movie, “High Noon’’. It will be shown on a large screen instead of video tape. The Columbia County commissioners have approved the annexation of the Fishhawk Estates. Residents can get up to 50 percent reduction on their fire insurance with the new service. Open shop is being continued on Tuesday nights. Mr. Cheney announces that this opens all shop facilities to the adults of the community.
