Lucene Hansen 429-2355 NOTES ON FOLKS Hunter safety course offered by Ruth Nogle Jewell Community School is offering a weaving seminar Saturday, February 21 at 1 pm at the Jewell School. Susan Holden will teach the basics of hand weaving and also show types of hand buildable looms. If enough interest is shown she will hold a ten week class through Clatsop Community College in March. If you are interested but can't attend the class held on February 21, call 755* 2385. A hunter's safety course is being offered to residents of the valley. Jim Reeher is offering this eight week class. To help set a most convenient time and date call 755-2385. The Elsie-Vinemaple Rural Fire Protection District No. 11 is proud to announce it has achieved an “8” rating. Mrs. George Hempe, executive secretary, reports that this means a possible 33 percent reduction in member’s insurance rates and is a result of over two years of hard work in upgrading. Mrs. Margaret Tweedy is dispatcher, operating the base station. In case of an emergency call her at 755-2233. Norman Wilkins is fire chief and Bev Wheeler is treasurer. The test, conducted by an inspector from the state of Oregon, was made last October and included water pressure along with other standards for the welcome No. 8 rating. An election of board members for the fire district will be held March 31. Henry Rierson has served on the board since its' founding in December of 1969 and has now announced his retirement. Judy Layman is still requesting PRPICH’S ANNOUNCE BIRTH Ellie Hannah Prpich was bom to Jim and Barbara Prpich on Friday, February 6 at 8:14 am in Dr. Peter B outs birthing cabin in Forest Grove. Ellie entered the world weighing 7 lbs., 12 oz. and is the Prpich's first child. Barbara was assisted in the delivery by her husband Jim, Dr. B outs and his wife Joan and a mid wife, Dawn Hoadley. Barbara reports that she and Ellie are both doing fine. SNOOPY FLEA MARKET by Louise Hamnett March 28 and 29 are the dates to remember for the Seventh Annual Snoopy Flea Market. I.O.O.F. hall is again the chosen place and will open at 10 am and close at 5 pm both days. Free admission to inspect the 25 tables of useful new and used items. Added to the event this year will be a Silent Auction. A feature well worth James P. McFarland passed away after a short illness February 5, at a care center near his home, in Phoenix, AZ. The McFarland family moved here in 1945, coming from Kansas City, Kansas. Mr. McFarland worked as a night watchman at the O.A. mill until its closure in 1957. Shortly thereafter the family moved to Tacoma , Wa., and then to Phoenix in 1977. He is survived by his widow Edith at their home. BUCKNER AND WIFE VISIT RELATIVES Sgt. 1st class Jerrold Buckner arrived in the U.S. February 9 on Ipave from the Army after a two year tour in Germany. After spending a week at his home in Georgia, he and his wife Betty came to the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Buckner, here on Sunday. Sgt.
