No one has ever matched the Duesenbergs.” There is not a doubt in Ed’s mind—when it comes to cars, the Duesenberg is a real “Doozie! ” AuCOIN NAMED TO HOUSE APPROPRIATIONS COMMITTEE Oregon Congressman Les AuCoin has been named to serve on the powerful House Appropriations Committee. The fourth-term Democrat’s appointment to the committee, considered one of the three most influential in the House, was announced by the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee the day after the 97 th Congress convened. Speaker of the House Thomas P. O’Neill, who supported AuCoin’s bid for appointment to the Appropriations Committee, said the Steering and Policy Committee “made an excellent choice in Les AuCoin for reasons of fairness, regional balance and recognition of the need for able new leaders. “Over the last six years in Congress, Les has earned the respect of colleagues on both sides of the aisle as an imaginative', effective legislator who believes in teamwork,” O’Neill said. AuCoin’s appointment preserves an Oregon voice on the Appropriations Committee. Outgoing Congressman Bob Duncan was the state’s sole representative on the 54-member panel. “To have lost representation on this committee would have been a great blow to Oregon,” AuCoin said. “The federal budget is a dollars-and- cents statement of national priorities, so it is crucial for Oregon to retain its position of influence in the appropriation process. ’ ’ Watch This Space Next Week For OurBest Specials! fe*.
