Events across our region has kept us busy with stories to tell and all with a background of demolition and construction at our new location here in Drain. A leap of faith has evolved into the opportunity to purchase the corner building at 301 N 1st St. Only 4 doors down from our old location, but heaps of work moving all of the Savage business interests the first couple of weeks and now to put together offices and retail space, well it’s been a challenge for this old man, for sure. But we’re excited for the future once it all comes together. Trying to upgrade and add to some of our equipment and capabilities is another fiscal hurdle on top of the escalating expenses. The Oregon News Herald, basically, is a zero sum profit endeavor. We run operate entirely on advertising dollars for production and distribution so that we can provide the news for free. As we strive to increase advertising revenue, we continue to feed the Herald out of pocket most months. Please support our wonderful advertisers, they make the Oregon News Herald possible. If there are any corporate sponsors who would like contribute to the support of providing FREE local news and information in print form to the public, please consider our cause for your support. There is a new development that I hope will, not only increase our footprint across western Oregon, but may appeal to potential advertisers who will benefit from partnering with us to support the newspaper and to bring more business and organizational branding and messaging to our Readers. From Roseburg to Albany, including Sutherlin, Cottage Grove, Eugene and Springfield and on the Coast from Coos Bay to Florence - the Herald has, over the last 2 years, reached a total of nearly 5000 readers. And what development is that, you say? The Oregon News Herald will be also publishing an extended electronic edition this month and next month, to over 40,000 recipients across social media, first in our current 75 mile diameter distribution area and then to all or most of western Oregon. The extended editions contain additional stories not published in our print edition and more photos and advertiser exposure with additional pages of material. So welcome to summer everyone, it was a long winter and Spring but now that it is here, let’s watch out for each other and mind the heat. Enjoy summer vacation or at least get out and partake of the endless joy of our great state of Oregon. Be mindful of fire safety, give your neighbors a hand if they need it and keep smiling. Trust me, it makes all the difference in this day and age. Another little tidbit of news, the Herald has actually been featured in an online article by a couple of U of O students as a class project. As I have reported, many times, the newspaper industry is declining across our nation to the tune of 10 going out of business each week. The bulk of these, but not limited to, are rural and small circulation publications, creating News Deserts across the country. The class project was for students to fan out and get the stories from rural and small communities in Oregon and report on them.
