Ranked academically in the top ten per cent Were„Susan Corrick, Kris Greb, Marilyn Jenne, Cindy Johnson, Christina Martin, Gayle Mosser, Paulette Vocu and Dana Zimbrick. -WES staff members chose Gar ry Clements as the outstanding t boy and Susan Corrick as the ' outstanding girl. The “ Fourth” will actually get started a day early with kids’ games at the Willamina High football field starting at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 3. On the Fourth itself, activities will begin with the logging show starting at noon. An arts and crafts fair will start at 1 p.m. and continue until 5. After the parade, it will resume at 7 p.m. and run until dusk. Included among the features in the Arts and Crafts fair will be a special presentation of the lost art of spinning. Those wishing to display their works or antiques are asked to set up their exhibits between 10 and noon on July 4th. For further information, contact Mrs. Alice Lacock, 876-5432. There will be various conces sions in the area of the logging show. At 5 p.m., parade entries will be judged, and the parade itself will start at six. The fireworks display will begin at dusk. WHS grads receive scholarships, awards Phil Sheridan Days, “ Western Spree for ’73” got underlay Tuesday, June 12 with the arrival of Blake and Son Carnival set up on the high school track field/ A rundown of highlights of this weekend’s activities includes: The rodeo will have three performances, 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 1:30p.m. on Sunday. The kids have their special day on Friday, with the parade set for 3 p.m. Judging will be at 2:30 at the city park. From there the parade will go along Yamhill Street to Bridge and across town to the high school. The categories are costumes, pets (in cages or on leash), decorated bicycle or tricycle .age 6 and under, same for riders 7 to 12, teens through high school, marching units and floats. The Timber Carnival is scheduled for- 7 p.m. Friday on thé high school football field. Instead of using professionals, local people from thè logging industry will be showing their skills in such events as bucking, çhoker setting, axe throwing, just to name a few. An Indoor Art Show is being planned at the Masonic Hall and the Outdoor Art Fair at the U.S. Bank parking,lot on Friday and Saturday. Paintings by both professionals and amateurs will be on display and judging at the Masonic Hall. A special attraction at the Hall on Sunday 1 to 4 p.m. will be a demonstration of weaving by Russ Graff from “ Robin and Russ Handweavers” in McMinnville. Carl Coger and Jay Lenghorne from New York City will be at the Outdoor Art Fair on Friday and Saturday to do portraits in charcoal and pastels. The big parade will be at 6 p.m. on Saturday. Miss Oregon Universe, Judy Bishop of Portland, will serve as grand marshal. Some of the early entries include: Shrine Marching Band from Portland, Ladies Pipe Band from Portland, Clan McClay Pipe Band, Trojans Drum and Bugle Corps from Vancouver, Challengers Junior Drum and Bugle Corps of Sheridan, McMinnville Eagles Lodge Ladies Drill Team, Rainbow Girls Drill Team from McMinnville, Gray Boys Pipe Band from Portland, Rose Lodge 4-H Riding Club, Sheridan Cantor Club, North Lincoln Saddle Club, McMinnville Chamber of Commerce float, and Gopher Valley, float. The group “ Clay” will play for the teen dance at the high school on Saturday, 8 p.m. Scholarships and awards presented to graduating seniors at Willamina Union high school on Sunday, June 3 included: - - a full scholarship to Mt. Hood Community College and an ath letic scholarship to Oregon State University awarded to Mike Propes. --a scholarship to the college of her choice in Oregon, awarded to class valedictorian Marie Vin son. - -a 75 per cent scholarship to ' Linfield College, awardedtoTom McKearn. - - an athletic scholarship to the College of Idaho awarded to Dan Barnes. Oregon Scholar Certificates from Governor Tom McCall went to Marie Vinson, Kim Greb and Lawrence Newberg. Those students receiving honor medallions from the faculty were: Ginger Mishler, outstanding girl athlete; Dan Barnes, outstanding boy athlete; Jeannie Daniels, for outstanding activities and Anita Kilgore for citizenship. Grand RondeP.T.O. scholarship winners were Laura Cummerford and Evelyn Robnett. Jaycees add members Willamina-Sheridan Jaycees met Thursday, June 7 and in stalled as new members Roy King, Tom Fox, Jerry King, Oren Murry and Vance Welty. Jim Booz was installed Sunday, June 3 at a Jaycees meeting in Albany. Willamina-Sheridan Jaycees al so voted to have a beer conces sion at the Fourth of July cele bration, and to enter a “ boat race” float in the Phil Sheridan Days parade. Sixty seniors receive diplomas at Sheridan commencement Retiring teacher Mrs. Fern Eberhart received a standing ovation from the, graduating sen iors, their parents and friends at the commencement exercises at Sheridan high school on F ri day night. Other speakers were valedictorian Vickie Smith, salutatorian Janet Simonson, AFS student Carolyn Morton and Ro tary student Uli Wiltschko. The high school band, under the leadership of Robert Belieu, opened the festivities and also played the processional and r e cessional. The invocation was by the Reverend William Seal of the Nazarene church. “ Master of Human Destiny’ ’ was sung by the chorus under the direction of Eugene Kilday. Heider Cup for the girl outstanding in character, leader ship, Emily Knutson; Ruth Field Cup for a student outstanding in character, leader- and Janet Simonson. Addressing the graduating class of Sheridan High School, Mrs. Fern Eberhart, retiring and popular teacher, receives a standing ovation for her commencement speech. Sixty seniors graduated at the ceremonies, and a new scholarship named for Mrs. Eberhart was awarded for the first time. Class valedictorian was Vickie Smith; salutatorian was. Janet Simonson. The new Fern Eberhart scholarship was awarded to Sue Hays; the Bill Chrisman mem orial scholarship to Emily Knut son; the Verne Lochner memorial scholarship to Sharon Brewer, the Andy Sisk memorial scholar ship to Tim Papen. The all expense Chemeketa Community College scholarship went to Cheruell Herwig.
