While that may not have been exactly the way the ad wâs worded that is basically thé way the city of Sheridan went about looking for. a new city ad ministrator to replace Bob Wells who is resigning as of February 1. When Sheridan first began to look for a replacement for Wells, they placed an ad in the publica tion put out by the League of Oregon Cities. So far according to Mayor Charlie Jordan they have received about 10 applica tions for the job. Originally a February 1 dead line was set for applications, but now Jordan is having second thoughts and wishes that it was sooner. According to the city ordinances the police chief can double as the city administrator and there probably would have been no problems, but since then Chief Bomberger has resigned. The city council was slated to begin looking over the applica tions at the city council meeting of January 22. At that time it would be de cided how many of the applica- > tions would be pursued further. From that point the people would be contacted and interviewed. “ We want to get as much as we can get for the least amount of money,’’ Jordan said. In fact wages and qualifications will be tied hand in hand. In order to be qualified for the job the applicant must be, ac cording to Jordan, “ a jack of all trades. He has to be able to work with men, be a public accountant and a sewer, water and street engineer.” Jordan is the first to admit though that they can’t really hope to find anyone who is that qual ified, but they want someone who has a background, in these areas or is a quick learner. ‘‘It’s important that we find someone very qualified because we have to meet rigid state requirements concerning the sewers.” “ We are fortunate though to have . a vary good man working with our sewer system, ” Jordan said. Duties of the city administrator include the collection of fees levied Jby the city, preparing the annual budgets, completing annual budgets, making annual departmental reports and reports on the - activities under his di rection,- the hearing of com- plaints, seeing that city leases, one within 30 days of choosing the new £ity administrator. “ I personally would like to find some guy wno is tired of the big city and would like to move here and take a similar job,” Jordan said. “ Before we select the new city administrator he must meet to the satisfaction of everyone con cerned. “ The job is not an easy one; you can’t please everyone all of the time. The man will have to have a good personality and the capability to handle com plaints in a mature way,” Jo r dan said.
