TH E WILLAMINA TIMES Published Every Thursday At Willamina, Oregon Will The War Criminals Escape Trial and Execution? It becomes more and more ap parent that there will be no war criminal trials or executions as far as America is concerned. There was a lot of frothing a- bout fixing the blame for Pearl Harbor, but the boys who really were to blame, fixed it all up by just talking it along over the years. In the same manner there will be talk and talk about what should and is to be done with war criminals, but it just never will be done. They have most of the arch-criminals now and some of them have been feted and others are living like the war prisoners over here, on the fat of the land and the fatheads are the boys who are shoved into the front trenches to wipe out a menace. War criminals, of course, are in one category, and those res ponsible for bringing on the war are also of course, in another category. In the latter class are the high German officials, the old government of France, the government of England and the government of America. Per haps next to Germany, England is the most culpable of the na tions responsible for the present war and you will note that while that government has had the despicable Hess for more than two years they have never even attempted to bring him to trial or punish him. Immediate trial and punish ment must be had in Europe or it cannot and will not be done. There is no single thing that works so surely and effectively . . . Most of the men ser ved as soldiers for small pay. and all of them lived off the country as they went along. They carried some provisions, of course, but the main part of their living came from the wild game they encountered on the wav. It was necessary’ that the real nurnose of the expedition be kept a secret because the country lying between the Miss issippi and the Rocky Mountains was held by Spain and was known as Louisiana. If a foreign power should invade this terri tory without permission, it would be considered an unfriend ly act and might result in war But, before the expedition was equipped and ready to start.
