Yocom, Jr. Roy Howard of Valley Junction narrowly escaped death or serious injury early Saturday morning when his loade«! logging truck Icrashed through the highway guard railing and dropped about 20 feet into the Yamhill river. The accident occurred in Sheridan about 0 o'clock in the morning, and according to Mr. How ard, was caused by the failure of the truck's steering gear to function properly. Just before the truck left the high way Howard jumped, receiving minor cuts an<l bruises. The truck was badly wrecked, but was removed from thi river within a few hours after the accident. Three large logs, whicl comprised the load, were lodged in the river.
