ions huve a m em bership of about
one m illio n , or n ea rly one-third of
the to ta l in the federation.
Lew is characterized the co un cil’s
action as one o f “ incred ible a n d
crass s tu p id ity " and said th a t it
was “ dictated by personal selfish­
ness and fra n tic fe a r.”
