RETURN FROM TRIP
Flossie and A1 Buchanan re
turned this week from a trip to
Tonopah, Nevada.
TROPHY DEER is this one put down by Tony Felipe, while hunting with Jim Archibald n e a r Cape
Ferrelo this week. The big four point buck weighed in at 159 pounds, two pounds heavier than the
"record” claimed last week by Brother Colegrove in the same area. Checking over the buck here
is "Scottie" Archibald, nephew of Felipe.
The Brookings City Council
made another r o u n d on the p o ss
ibility of "Just getting a start ”
on the street paving program for
Brookings next summer.
The discussion was parclplta-
ted by the Planning Commission
recommendation that the city
initiate street surfacing, at the
cost to the property owners of
30$ a front foot. It was recom
mended that the city crew do the
work, and the 30$ figure would
pay for the m aterials.
The planning com m ission also
recommended that it be done as
much as possible on a volunteer
basis.
The project would Include a
heavy oil surface, which would
not be permanent, but would bibid
down dust, and would be a base
for future work.
It was discussed that it would
be the only plan within the finan
cial reach of the people at thia
tim e.
It was the general opinion o f
the council that "we've got to
make a start".
Thereactlon of the council wan
that there would be difficulties
making the paving on a volunteej
b asis, and said that it probably
would have to be done on a sp ec
ial assessm ent district b asis.
The planning com m issions idea
was to get the people interested
down to sign up, so that it could
be determined who wants partt«.
There was also the question of
which streets are ready for the
work.
In conclusion the council nam -
ed a com m ittee, consisting of
three councIlmen, and two plan
ning com m ission members to
work with Bill Spencer to try to
determine what streets would be
worked on.

them another look by a party of
three before taking any further
action.
There was some talk on the
