BROOKINGS—HARBOR P IL O T SAN F R A N C ’ SCO She has charm and is a lady, Every inch and every way, And distinguished in appearance, Noon anti night and dawn ami day. Noble blessings are her ocean, Stately hills and lovely Bay. Far renowned are all her landmarks, So's her mystic charm in veil. Radiant bride she is in sunshine, With a welcome smile or hail. And at night she has the splendor Of a living fairytale. Native child as well as stranger, Now and from the days of yore, Captivated by her first sight. Or be bom within her door, Idolize her as the beauty That intoxicates before. Ships have anchored here to glory, Feet are set upon her shore. Crowned and blessed by earth and heaven, An beloved forevermore. O Queen of transient cities here. My eternal "Je t'adore." —Minco de Bruin STRIKES HURT LUMBER Strikes among the building trades in major consuming areas are aggravating an already low demand for Northwest forest products, andpriceshas fallen to their lowest levels in several months, according to Random Lengths, Eugene weekly lumber market letter. Meanwhile green lumber pro duction continues to outdistance demand, and unless prices stab ilize, some mill closures are imminent. Orders come In a dribbling volume, but generally are highly specified and demand quick shipment. Plywood production has not t caught up with the o r d e r s laced during Fourth of July hutdowns but sheathing demand s off slightly and prices a r e eakening.
