PERMIT NEEDED TO BRING MILK
INTO OREGON FROM CALIFORNIA
How is it th at m ilk from Cali
fornia, Idaho and W ashington
comes freely into Oregon? T h at
question, in one form or another,
seems to be popping up at this
time.
So the state d ep artm en t of ag ri
cu ltu re dairy chief, O. K Beals,
gives the answ ers so everyone in
terested may know At the same
time, as you will see. he relates
that milk produced in Oregon
moves freely into each of the
other states.
This movement back and forth
is due to the law of reciprocity
w ritten into the Oregon milk code
in 1951. U nder this reciprocal a-
greem ent section of the law, the
departm ent may en ter into an a-
greem ent w ith other states to p er
m it m ilk to cross state lines. The
blood test. Oregon has not recog
nized the ring test, w hich is ac
cepted by W ashington and Idaho.
California does not require either
test for its dairy herds but does
have a com pulsory calfhood vac
cination program .
