Illinois Valley - Bruins Split Games
Brookings w ound up their regu
lar season play this past week
end, by splitting two close games
w ith a good Illinois Valley squad.
Both games w ere decided in the
last second, w ith IV taking the
conference win by a 41-40 score,
edging out a w in in the seasons
in an overtim e, and the Brooks
finale by a 52-49 count after tra il

F riday night on the IV court
th e Brooks took an early lead
15-13 at the first q u arte r mark,
w ith Bill W orkinger hitting for
seven and Ron Bullock and Ron
L ane each four. A good solid
defense kept Illinois Valley from
scoring a bucket in the second
q u a rte r and the B ruins carried a
28-16 lead at half time.
B ut scoring for the Brooks went
into a nosedive from then on.
They could only m ake a total of
nin e points in the next two q u a rt
ers, w hile IV m ade 22 points to
catch them at the wire. Brookings
th ey w ere ahead by a 38-37 when
th e score was actually knotted at
37 all.
W ith 1.15 seconds left G ary

Bruins tied it up again, before a
technical foul, called on Stan

and another T foul was called on
a coach, w ith L arry Reston m ak

The game S aturday night was
just the reverse, w ith IV getting
off to a big lead, only to lose it
in the last seconds. T here 30-17
lead vanished by the end of the
third q u arte r w hen the Brooks
scored 19 points to trail by only
four.
W heeling along the Brooks hit
16 more in the final fram e to win
