L & C CHOIR THRILLS MANY
Bud Pisareki
— Sketch Book —
A very well trained group of
college youngsters visited the
city Sunday. They were the
Lewis and Clark College Choir
Their conce’t was well attended,
and no doubt well received.
- Sketch Book —
I mentioned the ‘doubt’ angle
because I wonder how many
really enjoyed the program?
— Sketch Book —
True, we can’t give people a
spattering of art here and there
and expect them to carry the
ball from there.
— Sketch Book —
In small isolated communities
such as this, many of the cit
izens are cheated out of man s
greatest gift to himself that of
creatifity.
— Sketch Book —
Someday we hope the situation
will change and appearances of
things like the L & C Choir are
of a more frequent nature.
— Sketch Book —
To insure a rich full life for
our younger generation we as
adults must he certain they are
prepared for this by the right
education.
— Sketch Book —
Not only must Susie and John
ny learn to play musical in
struments but, others must also
learn to appreciate what they
play. Not only must Johnny
learn to nail and hammer, he
must learn the creative possibil
ities he possesses. There is one
thing in get.¡ng a building plumb
and another in getting a good
design in the structure.
, — Sketch Book —
So, while we move into the
era of better schools, we must
cooperate with the educators of
our children. We must give them
the necessary’ tools to work with
and then some more.
We must insist our youngsters
get a wonderful background in
what the colleges call Liberal
arts.
— Sketch Book —
Remember music, music ap
preciation, art. art appreciation,
industrial arts (with the right
emphasis) are not added frills
to education, they are necessities.
— 8ketch Book —
And above all, more money
than you or I can imagine should
be budgeted for a reference lib
rary where the pupils can learn
to seek ou. information above
and beyond what any teacher
can be ex per ted to carry around
on his. or her. two shoulders.

HIGH SEAS —
Despite Bri»okings being sit

the coast, there was a very heavy
surf running, last Friday and
Saturday. On the horizon, out
in the real ocean, the combers
w'ere so high they looked like a
