to life size. T h e y in c lu d e a lion,
tig e r, hippopotom us, g ira ffe , fish
and e x o tic birds.

th e w est coast in d u s try ’s sto ry.

signed to in te re s t e v e ry m em ber
o f the fa m ily .

Y o u 'll be able to see th e show-
lo t, hours 2 to 9 p.m. b u t you
w o n ’t be able to see a ll o f the f i r
plyw o o d w h ich has gone in to
"w o rk h o rs e ” areas o f the tw o
circ u s wagons c a rry in g th e dis­
plays.
A m o n g these uses o f the v e rs­
a tile b u ild in g panels are wheels
f o r an endless b e lt c a rry in g a n im ­
ated sections o f th e displays, and
s tro n g shelves f o r the m usical
eq u ip m e n t, su p p o rts fo r in d u s try
displays. A ll o f these are uses
suggested in the in d u s tria l section
o f th is in d u s tria l show.

These hu m b le beginnings w e re
in a li t t le box and d ru m fa c to ry
on th e banks o f the W illa m e tte
R ive r. Sino? the n the in d u s try has
burgeoned in to a $400 m illio n a n ­
n u a l business e m p lo y in g 24,000
w o rk e rs in m ore th a n 100 m ills in
the P a c ific N o rth w e s t.
T h e f ir s t p la n t, k n o w n as P o r t­
la n d M a n u fa c tu rin g Co. m ade h a lf
a dozen panels f o r d is p la y a t th e
L e w is and C la rk E xp o sitio n . T h e
m odel o f th is p la n t, show n in th e
h e a rt o f th e c o lo rfu l Jub ile e ply
wood in d u s tria l e x h ib it,
