All the- m em bers and visitors welcomed Mrs. Brady's ta lk on fuchsias as th ?y are one of th • good growing flowers of this com m unity, and ft ey were all very much in terested in the sample's of some of th e new varieties. Most of those sam ples w ere brought from Mrs. B rady's garden in P o rt land. and som e w ere brought from Mr. Will C rissey’s garden here in Brookings, who also is an ack nowledged authority on fuchsia;. A recorder at the south end of th e In te rsa te bridge in Portland counted an average of 35,522 ve hicles a day during S eptem ber, a 14.9 gain. D espite the increase in trav el, Oregon traffic deaths though Sep- inber to talled 286 as com pared w ith 285 at th? end of S eptem ber last year. S ecretary of S ta te Eai 1 T. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Chapm an had a couple of days in Eugene w here D ale w as called as a w it ness in co u rt session there. Mr. and Mrs. W arren S m ith are on a four m onths visit to Europe. [■' litical decision, passed the hot p o tato to a special com m ittee of its own choosing. Monlhs piled upon m onths. E x p erts from far aw ay places m ade supposedly scientific evaluations of pro|Mised sites, the sjiecial com m ittee each day postponed having to m ake the fateful decision; and ■ all this tim e, th e city governm ent, safe in its bomb shelter of shifted I responsibility, w atched the fire works. Then w ith pressure from the public and th e press calling for I a halt to the dilly-dallying, the s |" c ia l com m ittee, w ith fingers ero ed, released its decision D elta P ark nd w ith th e ink barely dry on the press announcem ent of the decision, the city govern m ent announced th a t it would op pose the site selected.
